I've said it before and i will say it again, Sony has terrible senior managers who are completely out of touch
I think it's more than a PR blunder. Requiring a PSN login from customers in countries that do not support PSN was short-sighted and, frankly, nonsensical. It will be interesting to see if we get an official response from Sony on Monday and what they will say.

i said Steam players would be the ones that would be harmed in this situation, they thought Sony would revert it by creating this fake overreacted review bombing, they don't know Sony, they will present new MAU numbers to their investers at the end of May, this is not something they will revert

Ah I see the "major" PC gaming player base of Afghanistan and Burundi are being affected. Once again to emphasize, Sony could have handled it better wherein they should never have given a no name game dev like Arrowhead so much leeway by making PSN id optional in the beginning to help alleviate the server issues, they got gifted with a knife in the back for it. There should be no negotiating and giving in to terrorists. The nuclear option is the best option to take in this case, steam users are not premium customers and should be treated as the second class customers they are.
150 of those countries, the daily average wage is less than 10$. I don't know about you but growing MAU in 3rd world doesn't seem the way to go
Considering Steam is offering refunds and the game is being delisted in select countries, it makes me wonder if Valve has been in contact with Sony and already confirmed this.
