lol pc players will not buy it. It’s a single player game that’s not cd projekt or froM software.
Let’s hope it’s full price because I f them for not supporting this game on release day on ps5

Yes, everyone is obligated to buy a game on PS5.

Also, the devs actually expect the game to sell better on Steam than PS5.

Makes sense. There's a lot of PCs in Asia and this game should do well there

They can expect whatever they want.
Games like this don't sell on pc. (good games)
Bayonetta sold over a million copies on Steam, and Devil May Cry 5 sold over 2 million copies on Steam. Big games in this genre tend to do just fine on PC...not that I would expect Bayonetta or DMC level sales for this new IP.

Nier Automata also sold over 2 million copies on PC.

Isn't that up to Sony to decide?
If it was for sony to decide, they would sell millions lol.
It's pc gamers who are conditioned into gaas.

It's been a long game since pc gamers had a game like this... but we should never underestimate powe of T&A I suppose lol.
But I hope people will see this game for more than just that

Is there actual data for this though?
Just Steamspy https://steamspy.com/app/524220
These are rough figures, as Steamspy isn't able to pull accurate data from Steam anymore. But it puts it at somewhere between 2million and 5million copies sold. Given that's quite a wide gap, I prefer to use the lower end of the data to be safe, especially since we know the total sales across platforms is 7.5 million https://www.forbes.com/sites/ollieb...nier-automata-have-exceeded-75-million-units/

They dont. It's mainly feelings based guesstimates. These guys were expecting a KOREAN game to stay console exclusive? How delusional is that?

Automata is at 8m now. But I think they announced It alongside the Switch release, so It's probably higher now. Wouldnt be surprised If It was closer to 10m now, thanks to the anime helping out a little.
Wouldnt be surprised If the PC sales were around 2m~ and PS4 around 6m~. The game was (and still is) pretty rough on PC afterall.
A native PS5 rerelease alongside switch 2 could bump the numbers heavily as there are a lot of new players on the market, that never had a chance to play It before. Fix the graphics, add in the cut content and rerelease that shit already.
The issue with Automata is that there's no best way to play It. (Kinda like Rayman 2)
The Switch version has the most amount of content, but is capped at 30fps and looks like crap, the PC version is beautiful with the help of mods, but runs like shit, while the PS4 seems to be the best middle ground so far, but far from perfect.

I thought automata's PC version was fixed up in the 2021 update https://steamcommunity.com/games/524220/announcements/detail/3006699289308512390

The main thing working against PS ports on PC is all the marketing hype and network effect driving week one sales have died off after six+ months.

You won't typically see an announcement that a Sony game has done X number of sales in a month celebration for PC ports. However, the algorithms are pretty effective at moving products over time, especially once discounts start knocking off 70~90% off a title.

Elden Ring and Hogwarts both launched day one, so they had the full momentum of the marketing hype to help PC sales.

They fixed a few issues and FAR is not required anymore. Sadly, controller support still doesnt work without using Steam's Big Picture mode with their own controller mod, and theres's no way to properly rebind controls without using a dedicated mod. The game also crashes a lot, has shit tons of funny bugs and has issues related to the online mode (It works fine when It has to - ending E, but you will find yourself retrieving bodies of the same players over and over again)

But hey, at least the game boots now. Congrats, Square Enix!

That's fine as long as PS5 players continue to mass purchase Sony games in launch window. Selling your game on 70~90% discounts work, when you want to entice people to join your ecosystem, but I dont think It will be effective when we are trying to be profitable.

Discount pricing tends to work pretty well for any digital media, since the marginal cost to produce another unit (license) is practically zero for the publisher.
