Not sure if this is chill or technology but leaning towards technology. I want to invest in a proper surround sound system, with a receiver for my PS5 setup. I have a very long living room and was thinking 7.2 would be the proper theatrical setup. Problem is I know dick all about receivers and speakers.

From what I’ve gathered on the interwebs I just need to match the wattage on the speakers and receivers? Ideally I’d like some guidance like try this receiver and these speakers. Looking to spend about $1500. If anyone could help me I’d much appreciate you. Thanks in advance.

Biggest tip I’d give you is to make sure you get a receiver with autocalibration. It doesn’t matter how good anything else in your system is, or how your room is configured, an auto calibrating receiver will guarantee you get the perfect soundstage.

Auto calibration on my previous Onkyo AVR was really good, on my current Onkyo AVR it left me wanting more. They changed Audussey to some other not as well working thing, but still it does better than what I have patience or skill to do calibration wise.

I have a pretty basic SONY, and the autocalibration is incredible. The room my main setup is in is FAR from an ideal layout, but the soundstage is perfect.

That said, even a mediocre autocalibration system will give a decent baseline to make tweaks to, and some of them really only aim for that baseline, not perfection.
