The Call of Duty record numbers on Steam prove just how massive Helldivers 2 launch was

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 posted record numbers at 311k today. Call of Duty is the biggest premium multiplayer franchise out right now and has been for about a decade.

Helldivers 2 peaked on steam at almost 460k players on just steam (not counting ps5) and kept steady numbers for at least 3 months before starting to hit sub 100k.

What makes it more incredible is the COD numbers includes ALL COD games being played on Steam currently from what I believe.

Not just BO6. Warzone and others too.

Helldivers 2 was different and rare, it deserved to do well.

The record players is about all platform including Gamepass players… Steam and PS are 60% up year over year but it not a record for CoD.



Game pass inflate the numbers without revenue.

Another catch the record on Steam compares only CoD after 2022

They don’t compare with the biggest CoDs in the franchise (because they where not on Steam).

What they should have done is pulled most of their GAAS teams off what they were making and pushed them to support creating Helldivers 2 content to make it more and more exciting...

Unfortunately PlayStation isnt able to react dynamically like that....there is no realization that they have something special.

They usually throw their big breaks away, it all gets wasted.

Yes it's 4 games (mw2, mw3, war zone and the new black ops6). It's really not that impressive.

There’s both battle.net and windows gamespass for cod on pc. It’s not a direct comparison. CoD doesn’t do Apex numbers on steam when it’s not a product launch so I’m not sure that’s where most play. Sorta doesn’t make sense with how dominant it’s supposed to be etc. And if the gamepass model worked for this you’d ideally see less users on steam over time.

Hopefully they have some major content soon, I know it all came out of left field. But would'v been awesome if we had the Helgans invade during Killzone's 20th anniversary. The warbond trailers do get 500k+ views so the interest is still there.

And somehow Herman short vision bum ass thinks releasing games on Nintendo or PC day 1 is necessary for profits & growth. Even if you cut PC Helldivers 2 would’ve been successful on PS alone & could’ve release across PS4 & PS5 & sold 5+ to 10 million. Make you wonder how PS will move when the eventually release the PS PC launcher because that launcher will be DOA if it doesn’t have there multiplayer games exclusive or the pc port exclusive on there. No matter how delusional PS leadership want to think PC & Steam aren’t competitors they are very much so & bigger threat then console competitors like Xbox
