Anyway I think we're diverging from the topic at hand, @ethomaz if you want to open a topic on your takes on the performance subject we could discuss there.

Thanks. I thought so too, but never even checked the tech. I'll have to hold on a new TV, mine is perfectly good and again, 30fps doesn't bother me the slightest.

Question for the illiterate in me - Will a regular TV (not a VRR ready 120fps TV) support 40 fps fine?
Native... likely never.
The 120fps panels that runs at 40fps refreshes the panel at 120Hz not 40Hz... there is no native 40Hz in any actual TV in the market... TVs runs at native 60Hz mode too... 30fps runst at native 60Hz.

BTW 40fps will generate judder in native 60Hz mode (and VRR can't fix that).

Maybe monitor has native 40Hz?

40fps ain't never going to be a thing for games that don't already have a 60fps mode. You'll get the option of the much superior 60fps mode on your TV anyway.

That's true, but if I can find a happy middle ground between frames and eye candy, which the 40fps modes seem to offer (all the candy, slightly lower res, 40fps) I would definitely pick that one.

30 fps is horrible, especially on an OLED. I'm not playing a single game at 30 fps ever again.

Higher is better, yes, but the drama over 30fps is niche. Fps whores are niche. Most people don’t know, care or see any difference com 30 to 60fps and I myself can’t see the difference going higher than 60fps, I can barely see the difference between the new 40fps and 60fps modes.
And the motion sickness arguments are pure BS.

40fps is superior to both 60fps and 30fps modes because it combines the best of both worlds.

I still have to try a 40fps game... the games I have that received patch late I had already played.

Miles morales was a very smooth experience at 40fps and the eye candy was just the icing on the cake. I’m debating whether to wait or not for the inevitable 40fps mode on Ragnarok

Hardware-wise we're at a point where 30fps even on a console shouldn't be a thing anymore.

There's too large of a push on these systems for unrealistic resolutions and graphical settings which provide minute differences but cut your frame rate in half.

I can agree with this. I'd rather have games at 1440p upscaled and 60fps than native 4k at 30fps, for example.

The other thing too is that FSR 2.0 is available on these consoles now and yet the only place that it's being used is on PC. It doesn't make any sense.

I bit subjective I guess.

Anything lower than around 1800p in a 4k TV won't look good imo... it start to become blurry plus the bad upscaling techs and temporal AA makes the things wrost.
For 1080p TVs 1440p is great.

Yes, some games are definitely more enjoyable at higher framerates, like FPS, Racing and Beat-em-up, but I have personally never met IRL someone that claimed that 30fps destroy their experience and that they refuse to run games with that framerate

I used to never care, always played whatever came out on PS2/3 no matter what, like the apparently infamously bad SotC and Bayonetta original releases.

Now with the option on PS5, I have never seen a game look acceptable at 30 fps when I can immediately compare it with a 60 fps version. Honestly I have barely even been able to see what the graphical enhancements were that are causing me to lose half my frames. Demon's Souls is the most striking example for me, absolutely unplayable at 30 for me and I couldn't even see the effects, 60 looks fantastic and is smooth as fuck so it's a no brainer to me.

In something like Spiderman, RT could not matter less to me, I simply do not notice the reflections to a degree that matters while playing the game. Give me smooth and pretty over chugging and possibly slightly prettier if you squint.

Not entirely correct. 1440p can look great or awful depending on your textures and overall design. TLOU 2 looks incredible in 4k, for example. Conversely, you can also have 4k or even 8k image looking terrible on a 4k panel. This is transversal to gaming, movies, etc. It just depends on your implementation.

Also, as @DynamiteCop said, consoles have access to FSR 2.0.
