The drama over 30fps gaming

Never had a problem with 30 fps. Thank to god Uncharted 2/3 were 30, instead of 60 at reduced fidelity/"bells and whistles" on PS3.

Since devs aren't really taking full advantage of the hardware by any big stretch compared to previous generations (Matrix demo notwithstanding), then they better deliver a 60 fps option at the least.... which they're doing so it's nice.

it’s whatever …

But those who choose 30fps modes over 60fps modes in games when available are fools!

I forget the Matrix demo.
It is an example that for that graphical quality you will need 30fps.

Sure it does. Even if it is your preference.

You’re choosing to play the game in a worse way for visual improvements that aren’t noticeable.

Frame rate is even more tangible due to its affect on latency.

It’s not worth it.

The visuals are arguably worse. Pan the camera too quickly and the image becomes a jumbled mess.

I agree. I learned this lesson with the PS5 version of Control. I tried Ray tracing just to see and it ruined the fluidity and image quality of the game to me. I had a much harder time reading the screen for enemies or appreciating the art direction of the game. That flicker is always there even when you adjust to it.

I don’t have a problem when it’s my only option and games like drive club can still do some amazing stuff at 30fps to even deliver a incredible sense for speed.

But I’m also not playing on an n64 anymore. 24fps per second crew!

These types of discussions always lead me to the same conclusion, just get a PC. This constant bickering which happens on every forum just isn't a thing, you don't have to choose because you can have all of it at once.

Not entirely correct. 1440p can look great or awful depending on your textures and overall design. TLOU 2 looks incredible in 4k, for example. Conversely, you can also have 4k or even 8k image looking terrible on a 4k panel. This is transversal to gaming, movies, etc. It just depends on your implementation.

Also, as @DynamiteCop said, consoles have access to FSR 2.0.
I've never seen a single person complain about TLoU Part 2 1440p image. That to me says everything, it doesn't even have any fancy reconstruction as far as I know, just plain 1440p yet it looks incredible.

It's odd that people are so obsessed with resolution/4K when we have every proof that it doesn't matter after a certain point, including the fact that dynamic resolution became a thing (they can change the resolution in front of people yet they don't notice). It's sort of the same with framerate, as with VRR you don't really notice when it drops (as long as it doesn't drop too much).

1440p reconstructed to 4K at 60fps = perfection

You can get used to anything. I remember going from PC to ps4 in destiny 2 early on. It was such a shock dunno how I managed for all the years before. After a day or 2 was back to normal for me. Think going back and forth would be the hardest. Hell with my current set up play games at 60fps feels off when most stuff is 120+

I don't care.
I prefer 30fps if graphics are better honestly... at least on consoles with a controller.
I just replayed uncharted 4 remaster at 4k30 and it was perfect.

But for example 30fps in Demons Souls remake is a tragedy. It's 75ms slower than boodborne 30fps and that was proven by digital foundry.

So yeah. 30fps in ratchet and horizon was also fine... horizon could use better motion blur though.
I really don't mind. I remember playing amazing dark souls 3 on 360. How good it looked and played. not the fact that it was 30fps.
I had 240hz gsync monitor and adjusted back to 30 or 60 on the fly. It takes just a few minutes. You just have to not be a stubborn fool.

That said - 24fps must die. Movies stutter at 24fps on oled but at 30 its fine.

Edit: I have a feeling that all this artificial push for 60fps will cost us nice graphics and also devs will no longer know how to do proper 30fps and we will end up with slow shit like demons souls 30fps

aren't noticeable?
Try saying that with 48" lg c1 oled in your face. good luck
1440p looks like blurry shit. On pc with DLSS, 4k quality setting (internal 1440p) looks better than native. But consoles dont have this good upscaling. Maybe checkerboarding.

No it isn’t. Stop being smug. You’re not better than anyone because you have different preferences and needs.
Yes.

Well to be fair that's with an OLED. By nature they have a slightly blurrier image because of their sub-pixel arrangement. This is one of the reasons LCD based VR headsets are still preferable as you get higher clarity per pixel.

nah that's not really true.
I had 4k 27" ips monitor before.. and you could clearly notice even 1800p being blurry.
Oled pixel structure is weird but it actually looks pretty clean

I suppose the distance you play affect how you perceive the resolution in a 4K... anything below 1800p will look blurrier at ideal distances but it can be fine outside that range... after some distance depending in the size of your monitor/TV you won't notice difference anymore.

That said... I prefer to play at ideal distances and it yes looks blurry.

The biggest shock happens when you change from a 1080p TV to 4k TV... 1080p games that looked fine in a 1080p set become really bad in a 4k set.

haha for sure!
It's very difficult to capture on a photo but there was a moment I had two 27" monitors. One 1080p and other 4k. Both very good ips.
Using 4k at 200% scaling at 27" results in exactly the same text and icons size. So I was able to compare easily.
And for mirrors edge image. Both are running 4k with 8xMSAA. Just that 1080p is downsampling. So again - same content, different montiors
The difference is HUGE!!! It was my scare going from 27" 4k t 48" 4k but I am relieved how fine it looks.

Of course it's a distance too. bloodborne looks amazing even on 55" playing from 3 meters away... but it's an aliased mess

I will add an outsider view not related to games.
My father always used a 1080p TV without issues but it broke and we brought a 4k TV... imagine he uses the TV to watch football and we pay the streaming (Premiere Futebol Clube) to him watch all the "Campeonato Brasileiro".
He says he saw things better on 1080p TV than 4k TV.
And he is right... the Premiere is a like a Netflix... the normal streaming is really enough for 1080p TVs but when you change to a 4k TV even the so called 4k streaming is way below what you need for 4k TV (Nextflix has that same issue).

I have the sensation that Streaming services and Games (GPUs) are not ready for 4k TV yet... actually 4k TVs is a future tech that will be better explored in future hardware and streaming services... it just that a TV lives like 7-8 years so it makes sense to jump 1440p and go direct to 4k but the cost of the actual imagine providers not being there yet.

Netflix (the most popular) 4k streaming services is ridiculous bad... hell I don't know how they call that 4k... the same for YouTube... I have no ideia how they can call 4k a video that looks worst in quality than proper 1080p encode.

Huh 4K streaming on my tv looks miles ahead than 1080p streaming ever did on my previous tv.
