He won't understand at all.

Who do you access the DLC defines if it is story locked/related.

Non-story locked: You don't need to play the base game, you can access the DLC via menu without touch the base, etc... there are several options but you don't need to play the base game.

Story locked: You have to process in the game story to reach the point that you can access the DLC.... there is no way to access it without well do some story in the base game.

Are you saying DLC that's selectable from a menu is okay to be nominated? Like the Witcher 3 DLCs? If From made an option to enter the DLC from the main menu and they just boosted a new char to DLC-level for you you'd be okay with it? Is that the idea?

Nope.

I'm teaching you what story locked means.

DLCs should not be nominated as GOTY because it is part of a game that already have it time to fight for the GOTY.
The Blood and Wine should never be nominated to GOTY like it was never nominated.

This weird things started with the change of rules this year... a change made specifically to Elden Ring.
Because we have a DLC last year that was better than most of game in the GOTY list... Phantom Liberty... and it got no nomination and when asked they said it was because it was a DLC.

What a learning experience from the virtuoso who thinks you need 40 hours game time to enter this DLC. Clearly you are an educated man. What do you care if it's story-locked or not though if it doesn't change your view of it as DLC and ineligible? You're just being an annoying pedant.

That is how much you need to play to reach the DLC point... 30-50 hours... maybe if you rush you can do in less time... depends how you play.

Elden Ring DLC is locked by several hours (~30 hours) of progress in the game to access it.
Unless you use some cheat method that he is trying to use as argument to jump these 30 hours in like 4 hours lol

I mean he even believes that 4 hours of progress is not story locked lol
It even calls 4 hours of gameplay as "tutorial" :D :D :D

And he wants to have a point.

To play devil's advocate on the other side of the conversation for a moment, they seem to be referring to the minimum win conditions necessary to reach the credits of the base game.

On this point, they are partially correct. You could "beat other demi-gods;" however, beating Mogh and Radahn collectively count towards the two Great Rune minimum that you need to progress the story. From this perspective, it's not wrong to say you're effectively progressing the main-story to access the DLC. However, one could still achieve the minimum completion requirements through other methods.

They are correct regarding how long it takes to access the DLC. I think I did it in like 2.5 hours or less when I booted up a new character for the DLC launch. However, you either need to have pre-existing knowledge of character locations and progress requirements, or be a natural souls prodigy to instinctually know how to access the DLC completely blind.

Play devil's advocate all you want, it's not like the dude you're talking to has played the game and is speaking from experience. He's trying to say 40-50 hours is REQUIRED to enter the DLC, it's simply not true, you're certainly not REQUIRED to attempt entering the DLC blind. You can go online, look up someone's guide for the fastest way in and be in there relatively quickly. Technically, doing it this fast DOES advance the story because the story simply requires 2 great runes, you are correct, but it's also the story for the DLC you're starting and you don't need to continue the main story to see where the DLC story goes from these events. Like it's not an arbitrary gate, these events are required for the DLC story to happen at all.

Keep in mind he also thinks there was a "rule change" this year for the Game Awards. I defy anyone claiming the rules were "changed" to show me what the past rule was especially since the new rule CLARIFICATION says remakes can be nominated (RE4 remake was nominated for GOTY last year). This was clearly a clarification of how things are done that was put out BECAUSE Shadow of the Erdtree had gotten enough votes and he wanted to pre-empt the whining. He didn't change anything to allow it in, it got in and he wanted to make sure people understood how things work.

So you need a guide to jump parts to access the DLC part... that for me falls in the cheating side.
And like I said he is being harmful with anybody reading his posts that to access the DLC they will need 4 hours.... anybody wanting to play the DLC without having played Elden Ring will need to play the base game first and will take like ~30 hours to reach the DLC point... maybe less if the person is a genius in Elden Ring but never know it.

In any case... these are more reason to not put DLCs on GOTY nominations 🤷‍♂️

If using a guide is cheating then most ER players are cheaters because 75% of that playerbase didn't find Malenia on their own, dude yet seemingly everyone streaming to an audience reached her. Huge viral event of that year. In fact if you don't access a guide you probably won't even find the damn DLC, dude, it's not on the MAIN PATH, it's HIDDEN CONTENT. You can BEAT THE ENTIRE GAME and NEVER SEE the DLC entrance. VERY EASILY.

It's less "jumping parts" and more "playing efficiently" to reach a desired location in the story.

Without spoiling anything, the DLC is gated in a location which can only be accessed by teleporting. There are two "methods" to teleport to this location. The first is very early in the game, and can be accessed without fighting any bosses, other than the Chapel of Anticipation boss at the beginning (a required boss). The second method of teleportation is located much much much later in the game.

It's like knowing you need milk, cookies, and orange juice from the store. If it's a store you've been to before, you know where to go and walk straight to the nearest isles in an optimal route. However, if it's somewhere you've never been before, and perhaps don't speak the local language, you might find yourself wandering around until you stumble across what you're looking for.

I think none of this matters you're arguing to someone who is a brick wall. Personally I hope it wins at this point just to spite people like him.

I also don't see how it's any harder to onboard someone into a DLC like this than it is a sequel. Most of the reason I haven't played horizon forbidden West yet is I haven't beaten horizon zero Dawn and I haven't beaten horizon zero Dawn because it kind of bores me lol like think about how much time I need to invest just to try out this sequel and yet some people think it should be nominated for something?? 😆

Just imagine if this was the thought process.

Best ongoing is for live service games, if anything it was a mistake last year to put Phantom Liberty there as it's a DLC, not a game "ongoing", but they wanted to show respect for the work done to improve the game since launch.

It isn't stated anywhere best ongoing is meant for live service games. In fact, Cyberpunk - the main game - and not phantom liberty - the DLC, was nominated last year. Showing respect for a game DLC can be done by nominating it in other categories, for story, performances, music etc.

The category in which the Elden Ring DLC is nominated is called "Game of thr Year", not "Part of a Game of the Year".

Keep trying, bro, if you were right it wouldn't be nominated.

Of course they can nominate it, it's their show and they changed the rule for it to happen. We are discussing the fact that it's silly to nominate a part of a game as game of the year, not who is right or wrong.

You still keep that ridiculous ideia of new game is equal to a DLC.

It is hard to talk with you because you have no ideia of what is talking about and won’t change your weird mind.

Even here you tried to make DLC story locked where you need to play over 30 hours of the game to looks like it just a tutorial lol

You can’t make more ahit up than that.

A DLC should not be nominated to GOTY award… I can see a case for remakes that changed everything from original but these are exceptions and not every remake… and remaster should never be nominated just like DLCs.

They shouldn't nominate sequels where the story matters because then I need to play through the entire first game to get into the second game. That's not fair. Too big of an obstacle. Only first entries in a franchise should be nominated for Game of the Year.

I have no ideia what games are you playing…

But you can play let’s TLOU2 without buy TLOU 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can you do that with a DLC?
