Metaphor was a great game. Said by critics and gamers. FF7R is never winning game of the year. It's a remake. Nomination is the best it's going to get.

My choice is Metaphor too.

But while I don't like Remasters and Remake in GOTY lists... FF7 Rebirth fall in the excepting because it is not a remake of the 1997 games but a sequel like others said here.
So I think that is the most I can acept in the list.
DLC, Remakes, Remasters, Rereleases? Nope.

Metaphor is a remake of Persona then. Atlus did copy/paste and called it a day.

Rebirth had more work than many games nominated, fully remade and expanded.

Admittedly though, Shadow of the Erdtree is a pretty rare breed in terms of DLC scale. The scope is much more akin to a sequel.

Its an expansion pack, these were extremely common back in the day,much less so now.

How did Stellar Blade not get nominated for best action game but mediocre Star Wars outlaw got in. Also a whole lot of mid blade nominations, maybe outside animation/voice acting mid blade could get nominated but that “game” is just a linear Unreal Engine tech test

Concord deserved a nomination for best Score at least... Lol, though I know Sony didn't submit it but Danial Pemberton did a good job with the OST lol

I still can’t believe how much Sony/Herman was banking on concord.

Bruh the name itself concord is an ugly sounding name.

The logo for concord looks like the letter N which doesn’t match the name or the first letter in concord.

The color way they went for promotion & like the twitter banner of a muddy mint is just bad & ugly again. All of these colors aren’t pleasing to look at or associate.

Idk wtf was happening at firewalk & Sony/Herman but damn talk about years of years of yes men, blind following & tone deaf & supposed the leader of PS call Concord as his baby & the next Star Wars like franchise w cross media/merchandise potential. Crazy

There are a reason why all these are DLCs including Shadow of the Erdtree.
Scale and scope doesn't determine if a game is a sequel or DLC.

A DLC for a 1 hour game will likely be well less than 1 hour.
A DLC for a 200 hours game will likely be 20-30 hours.

There are new games with 1 hour.
There are new games with 200 hours.

What the hours played have anything to do with a content being DLC or new game?

DLCs should not enter in GOTY nominations because it is already the game already had the change to be nominated in the year it was launched.
DLCs should be nominated in the DLC / Expansions categories.

Best downloadable content in 2024 category.
Now this award removed the "Best downloadable content" category and added DLCs to GOTY? It is really a joke.

Why Phantom Liberty was not nominated (and probably the winner) in GOTY 2023???
Because it is a better DLC Than Shadow of the Erdtree.
Or The Ballad ff Gay Tony.
Or Burial at Sea.

Bungie should’ve been under PS day 1 & after the failure of Bungie cording games like concord that has been major fiasco & fairgames looking to be the same how tf is Bungie not apart of PS & there games (marathon) not pulled of Xbox & released on PS4 instead to push PS. Totoki & Herman talk about boosting PS metric yet there not taking the action where the PS5 is falling behind PS4 which is embarrassing. Falling behind PS4 after the highs of 2017-2020 & the launch of PS5 yuh that’s spooky. PS5 should be above 80 million by now & they just touch 60 million in its 5th year & numbers are showing a huge decline which will no doubt effect other PS metric such as profits, mau, game sells etc. Herman logic would to release games day n date thinking that would boost mau/game sells long term when it will further put PS in a catch 22. Lego Horizon being released multiplat just to complete bomb waasting 50-100 million while failing to boost metric will always be funny.

Also for Lego Horizon do Nintendo gamers need a PSN account? If not yet another failure

Only thing saving PS5 is GTA6 & Xbox completely imploding but even w Xbox imploding the numbers gains from the death of Xbox isn’t showing a major growth across the board

I didn't think Shadow of the Erdtree was going to be eligible for GotY.

My only commentary was that I empathize with the reasoning behind its nomination.

By scope of content standards, it's on par with a full length title, and it has the highest Metacritic score of 2024.

It is not the first time a game with 100+ hours content receive a DLC with 20-30+ hours content.

We have a clear example last year and they choose to give it the award of "Best Ongoing".

Well, it's a video game awards show. They can kinda do whatever they want, since they write the rules and ultimately award the trophies.

The merit of these honorifics are only as valuable as the weight we perscribe to them as consumers. If we don't agree with a nomination, we can vote in a different direction, and hope enough others do the same to weight the 10% public vote allocation in another direction.

If we do that and it still isn't enough, it's okay to have your own "personal" game of the year.
