The path to 20 million copies is clear for Horizon Forbidden West

The game has been number 1 on UK charts for weeks now, 7 months after release, and it will probably stay that way as long as they keep bundling PS5’s. It’s probably pretty high in the US also although we can’t see it because they dont track the bundles. It’s been ranking pretty high on other international charts also, European, Spain, italy, etc.

By the time sony exhaust the bundles they have for it, Call of the Mountain will be out, The tv series will start being teased, DLC will be announced, and a PC launch will probably be in the not so distant future. This game is going to undergo at least 4 different marketing cycles not counting an eventual 3rd game.




Say what you want about Sony but they will not let their big games die due to a lack of marketing or something as silly as being overshadowed by another game. The fruits of being a platform holder is you can continually force people to care about the games you want them to care about lol

And horizon deserves it, its one of the best written, beautifully crafted, and well playing 3rd person shooting/open world games on the market.

I wouldn’t be surprised if 4 years from now horizon and elden ring end up around the same number of copies sold.

Sony are beasts since end of PS3 gen. They've released big or new ips away from holidays, on dates ppl thought were odd and still sold a ton. When quality is there, ppl will buy, no matter the month, day, price or if there is a recession lol

Yep, damn near everyone nintendo i ever bought had the best game packaged with it. From mario/duck hunt on NES, to Super Mario World on SNES, to Mario 64 on nintendo 64 etc.

They want to know how the data works out if possible.
- How many people begrudgingly bought a bundle but never bothered to engage with Horizon?
- How many people saved $10-20, who would have bought the game anyways?
- How many people bought the bundle who wouldn't have played Horizon otherwise, but did, and became a fan of the series? (could potential even sell copies of HZD, and DLC/MTX and whatnot)

The bundles exist to try to get more people into a game, not to "inflate sales numbers" for the individual game.. nobody cares about that but weird fanboys.

But that came for free unlike Horizon bundle. Someone said the overall Mario Kart sales don’t include the ones that came free with the Switch but I think Nintendo must count those

Bundles don’t just exist to offload unsold copies.

Horizon is arguably the best game to showcase the ps5 at the moment.

PS - Microsoft bundles their entire game catalog for 10$

Yeah, they also want people familiar with the franchise as they market it in other mediums, such as multiplayer, VR, mobile, PC, and TV. Either way Sony will get enough people to care aobut it.

The fact that its actually a high quality product just makes it easier for them to do so. Like, they couldn’t really do the same with Destruction All Stars, nothing could have saved that game.

Horizon is a highly rated series, both scoring in the high 80’s…it will be marketed just like their other highly rated games

No clue, I’m sure we’ll get an update once the DLC or TV show launches next year. The only point of comparison is dying light 2 which sold 5 million copies already but it doesnt track digital sales on NPD, but horizon tracked ahead of it in preorders and in every other market
