I wonder how much of that supply chain, brings out chips that can't hit certain frequencies? Wonder if that's why their supply is still so low compared to Xbox, or is it just a larger grip on that market?
Some of the borked PS5 chips are sold as AMD 4700s.
They say Nvidia and AMD are trying to get rid of wafers specially 6/7nm now that PC GPU market is slowing down and also new GPUs will be 5nm.
I suspect Sony has bought some of that excess to be able to provide us more PS5s towards the end of the year.

That would be a very smart move of them. Hopefully everything works out for them, as they have clientele waiting to buy

I believe PlayStation will ultimately lead the console arena this gen, but Xbox is throwing in some punches. Hopefully both can success to give gamers exactly what they want... Until then...

Superior value? With old-gen-tech controllers, no VR-gaming support, expensive proprietary storage solution, and 0.5x speed SSDs? Nah.

PS5 offers all that and more, and the DE costs $399 -- $100 less than Series X.

The price cut for Series S and X are primarily because of (relatively) lower demand and an attempt to capture the market as much as possible, because Sony is about to flood the market with PS5s in the next few months.
It is so weird to argue a more expensive system is the better value. Regular consumers don't care about how advanced the controller tech is only that they can buy one easily for a good price and have plenty of options on where they can purchase. VR is niche and you know it. Didn't Kinect have a greater attach rate than the PS VR? Add-ons are hardly a major selling point.

The repeated $399 price of the PS5 DE is also a bit weird when it is NOT widely available. It can't be an alternative when it is not an easily purchased device. I think the XSX is more widely available too. Fact still remains that you can buy a XSS AND games or Game pass over just the PS5 DE alone. Again a much better value proposition. The whole point is playing games right?

The PS5 DE offers a spec advantage over the XSS, an advantage casual gamers and kids won't care about. That is a hard core gamer talking point. XSS offers superior backwards compatibility which offers a larger game library, a much lower cost of entry which means a significantly larger audience target, and cloud streaming with Ultimate. This offers a fantastic quality of life feature especially if you don't want to snag an inexpensive external hard which most Sony fans seem to be unaware the XSS has supported from day one. The memory card is completely OPTIONAL. Don't want one don't buy it. As an aside it also offers more flexibility than the PS5 storage options lack.

Casuals are the bread and butter of the industry not the hardcore who will pay any price to support their favorite company. Some are mistaking their own excitement for their preferred platform over the reality that price and availability are major components to success in the marketplace. The X1 days are over and the landscape has changed. Yes the Xbox offers a superior value. Whether you subjectively prefer certain games is irrelevant when talking about the biggest 3rd party titles being on both systems.

Value is subjective.

I don’t value a cheaper apple if it overly ripe/rotten. The value is in the fresh crispy apple plucked from the tree, even if it cost more money

Game consoles to a casual gamer or a kid see the value as objective. When you see the price and find out you can still play all your favorite games from Fortnite to CoD with faster load times you'll grab the cheaper option. When MS still charged for online play on free games there was an objective value add on PlayStation. That is no longer true. You can play Fortnite without downloading it and for free on XSS. Can the more expensive PlayStation do that? Objectively better.

Meh, you say that now but i look at microsoft and android phones/products and look at apple products and a lot of people still prefer to buy the most expensive products even if it doesn’t have every feature of the former.

And you can apply that to shoes, tools, TV’s, etc. the cheaper product just simply giving you “more” isn’t always the one people go for. You dont have as much of a grasp on the casual consumer market as you think. I know people that don’t have two pennies to rub together but have a closet full of expensive sneakers or a new OLED tv.

When comparing random Android phones to iPhone perhaps but comparing Samsung phones to iPhone the argument changes. It isn't a great proposition to argue 'we have the most expensive premium product' when in many cases it isn't obvious. I actually prefer the build quality and acoustic profile of the XSX over the PS5. I subjectively prefer the aesthetics as well.

No one can objectively argue that the PS5 is a higher quality device than the Xbox Series consoles. Both have similar game libraries and similar features. They DO NOT come at the same price and that may be the biggest factor when it comes to growing the install base. Factoring in what MS has done to expand their dev studios recently and it's clear this generation will be quite different than last.

I do agree about the casual part of your thread, but I own a ps5 digital version and i would say the price to performance the value of it out-competes the other consoles.

I am basically getting a full-fat console on par with the regular ps5 and Xbox series x for 100 quid cheaper, surely that speaks volumes to its value proppostion.

That argument for availability is kinda like saying "I can't find expensive caviar because there's no stock, let me buy a bag of shite".

Your bag of 'shite' comment destroys any shred of objectivity in your argument. There is no point in getting into an emotional discussion about how much you love PlayStation.

The PS5 DE is not a better value than XSS especially since you can't buy one easily. More expensive games, sole source digital software sales, and paywalled cloud saves all make the value proposition even worse.

And yet, the ps5 will still most likely outsell the xbox series consoles and by a good amount

It can in fact be argued, thats exactly what we’re doing
Wait are you now changing your position to 'despite the fact PS5 isn't a higher quality device it's going to sell more? I don't think that's a good argument at all. The sales success of PlayStation is at least partially due to their massive success last generation. This is a new generation and we'll see how long inertia will push them forward.

You also must realize Xbox finds lots of success OUTSIDE of consoles. MS is playing a different game especially since you can play Xbox without needing an Xbox. You can stream new games on X1 and not have to buy a new console at all. Sony NEEDS to sell consoles to succeed MS doesn't.

And you sir Fish are a casual or hard core gamer? Do you think a parent looking to get a new system for their kid who wants to play Fortnite would care to pay scalpers to get the 'more powerful' PS5 DE? I don't think so.

Like I said value comes from multiple avenues not just price but Xbox has affordable games AND the platform is cheaper and readily available. Those are major pillars to value.

This is not an argument to value, I am giving you a real scenario of what I have paid and the level of performance I am getting vs other machines.

Personally, this is to Microsoft's benefit. Losing $100/$50 on Series X/S is easily worth it when the opportunity to make much more money is there after someone purchases either who may not have purchased either at full price but for $100/$50 less, they may jump at that deal.

Thats because you don't actually understand value. You're thinking in terms of pure speeds and feeds per dollar spent. I'm getting X amount of power and Y amount of ram blah blah blah. None of that matters, and that is not value unless you are comparing like for like (such as when building a PC and shopping for parts of nearly identical quality). What matters is the experience you get from your purchase. That's why something that is more expensive can have a better value to the person who is paying the money. Because they are getting what they actually want from their purchase. That's why a fantastic meal at a high end restaurant can actually be a "better value" than a crappy cheap meal from an all you can eat buffet. The latter of which being essentially what Xbox is now trying to be.

You're also mistaking that people are purely price conscious for the fact that people WANT. GAMES. They don't buy a console so that it can sit there and they can think about how many teraflops it has or think about "the best deal in gaming" they got with a bunch of games they dont want to play that they have to pay forever for (unless of course you were smart enough to do the conversion trick and arent really paying anything at all). That's why people will spend 350 dollars for a Switch OLED but not 499 for a system that is what ... 20x the power? Think about that. And considering just how much the Switch is smashing the Xbox in terms of sales, and the fact it does consistently, it means buyers are happy with their purchase.

So between the Switch and the XSX which system do you think consumers would say has given them "better value" for their money? I know what the answer is. And I think you do too. You just don't want to admit it.

Where is MS going to make a further 100/150 dollars of margin on this user? They don't really sell games anymore.

Uh no? What im saying is that value is subjective, if people didn’t find playstation to be the better value they wouldn’t actively invest in it over the competition.

The ps4 wasn’t sonys first console, they’ve been squarely the market leader in home consoles since the original PSX.
