ON off toggles for ambient occlusion, rt reflections, 2 new modes PRO and PRO fidelity?!
What are we fucking doing here ?!

This is a CONSOLE. Graphics settings make no sense on a console.
you don't have fps counter and cannot make any changes to the hardware.
So having options is doing nothing except seeing a thing and then having to disable it because it's too expensive AND YOU CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT because it's a locked console.

I already disliked too many modes in some games, then vrr modes, 120hz modes... sure I love 40fps or unlocked vrr modes but that was pushing it.
Adding granular options is a bit too far for me. It's a fine line because we want some options probably, so everyone can enjoy but too much and it makes no sense on locked hardware without even fps counter. How am I going to make an informed settings decision?
And knowing the results, what am I going to do? I am not going to say, "this looks great but runs like crap, so I will disable it". I will say "damn, what a shame I have to play without this because it looks nice". There is no changing anything about the console.
If I wanted this, I would play it on a pc god damnit. Console is not and should not be 700$ pc.
Give me FINE TUNED experience for my system. Something special. and even if you absolutely must do modes, Don't make one mode feel like showcase but in reality, this other mode is for playing.

Like, what's the point of this?!
If it was running great with all these settings, then there would be no choice to enable/disable them.
Knowing there is an option, means there is sacrifice and I don't want to feel this way when playing a console game.
So much for PRO a console for those who don't like choosing modes.

I like making decision based on numbers and empirical observation.
that's why on PC, I am always so OCD about settings. If there are settings, I must be sure to check all the settings to see what I like best. I will not paly unless I know I am getting an optimal experience with all components available to me.

And I never had this on console. On console, because there were no settings, I could just play and focus on that. And somehow it wouldn't bother me if it runs well or not.

As for my post, it's kinda crappy. I think I repeated few of my points couple of times... But you get the gist :p
Don't get me wrong. I am getting the PRO. it's pre-ordered. Just don't slowly turn it into a pc

I've platinum'd this, so I doubt I'll go back for very long but I think I'll have to see exactly how these settings are implemented... How the options are presented and how well tuned everything is.

They should do simple.
We are not beta testers in the future.

I agree with you... delivery a 30, 40 and 60fps modes without more options and it is done.
Now 40fps with A on/off B on/off C on/off is ridiculous.

Insomniac has been probably the best studio for optimization for PS5 games with RnC and Spiderman games.

Im interested to try it these new options. Its not rocket science, its click and try. As long as there is a 60fps mode and I can add things to it on Pro

We already have 30-40-60

Insomniac has been probably the best studio for optimization for PS5 games with RnC and Spiderman games.

Im interested to try it these new options. Its not rocket science, its click and try. As long as there is a 60fps mode and I can add things to it on Pro

We already have 30-40-60
They are using you as beta tester :(

The worst of PC developers coming to consoles.

"let's add flag options and the users realize what works and what not" lol

While I agree that the options in regards to visuals/performance is becoming overdone, I would expect it to be even more come next generation. The consoles are after all form factor PC's. I do however want options for film grain, chromatic aberration, motion blur, camera shake, head bob, etc. as I hate all of this shit and prefer to turn all of them off.

Do you know why PC games has tons of toggles? Because the amount of different hardware is so big that developers add toggles to the user disable things to see if it improves performance.

It is a trade off… you want everything ON but your hardware can’t so you start disabling things.

What the point to have theses in a fixed hardware machines?
If you can run everything ON then you won’t turn off.
If it can’t run well ON why you will turn it on… you won’t upgrade the GPU for some day use ir ON.

It just useless options in a fixed hardware.

Developers are losing they focus on what means game win a fixed hardware… what means CONSOLE EXPERIENCE!!!

Like I said to them early on Twitter.

PERFORMANCE PRO (Default for PlayStation 5 Pro)

This mode targets a smooth 60 frames per second while retaining the image quality of the standard Fidelity mode through use of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). All ray-tracing (RT) features are on, including ray-traced reflections, ray-tracing on water, and ray-traced window interiors. This mode is recommended for most players.


FIDELITY PRO

This mode targets 30 frames per second for players who want to experiment with new ray-tracing graphical features. These new features can be tuned individually to reach higher intermediate frame rates, especially when using the “VRR” or “120 Hz Display Mode” options. Pedestrian and traffic density may be increased in some areas, and fine hair detail is increased.

Would just go with the Perf Pro mode to keep it simple.

For example the base model mode runs at 70 (range to 90) in perf VRR mode, on the Pro it would be running 120fps I would be interested to check that out for a replay but if they limit the option...

The other mode which enables toggles seems more for tweakers and basically means if you want to max RT (better shadows and lighting) out it's at 30 and you can tweak it for more perf. Will be interesting to see the differences it makes if at all (while swinging).

I do get your point, tweakers are on PC and not meant for consoles but on the other hand you taking options away for people with different needs is also not ideal. So I am a bit in the middle with this one.

FF14 has toggles.

You know what's funny? If the Pro had no performance options, people would just bitch about not having enough options and how much better it would be to move to PC.

If you have a handful of options = "It's too much like PC and devs are losing track"

If there are no options like the good old days = "It's too limiting and consoles are holding back the industry "

It's a lost cause for devs, no matter what they do, lol.

The more hardware needs to be supported, the less time they will spend on optimizations.

Now that the majority of their games are multiplatform, you will see more and more of these things.
