Video Game Prices Are ‘Very, Very Low’ For What They Offer, Says GTA 6 Publisher Take-Two

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said during the publishing powerhouse’s latest earnings call that he feels video game prices are generally too low for what consumers get out of them:

The executive offered insight into how Take-Two calculates video game prices, and reckons as a whole the industry offers “terrific price to value opportunity” for players.

In terms of our pricing for any entertainment property, basically the algorithm is the value of the expected entertainment usage, which is to say the per hour value times the number of expected hours plus the terminal value that’s perceived by the customer in ownership, if the title is owned rather than rented or subscribed to.

You’ll see that that bears out in every kind of entertainment vehicle. By that standard our prices are still very, very low, because we offer many hours of engagement, the value of the engagement is very high. So I think the industry as a whole offers a terrific price to value opportunity for consumers.

Nobody is twisting Rockstar's arm to keep making bigger games. In general I don't want games longer than ~40 hours.

This shit argument again. They'll all bitch and moan about increased production costs but not one of them will admit that the industry is MUCH larger that it was 20 years ago.

You now have millions more people buying games and that's on top of all the microtransaction bs.

No industry can get away with more BS thsn the gaming one. Gamers will always bend over and take it so it doesn't matter.

I still think GTA VI won't be as successful as V. V had a pretty mid campaign but it was perfectly timed, pretty much the perfect storm:

Released at the tail end of the 7th generation. Game looked great on those ancient machines, and performance was not too bad.
First GTA built with online play and heavy monetization.
Remastered for new generation consoles early on
Pc port with amazing scalability, you could run it on toasters. Massive modding and RP servers.
Remastered again for 9th gen consoles.

Yeah, kind of hard to feel sympathy for game production costs increasing hundredfold while the industry and audience, to say nothing of profits, have increased thousandfold over the same period of time.
wouldn't say a thousandfold, but 10x for sure, used to be a solid game that sold 2 million
