And yeah sure their dev studios are the ones that convinced Sony to let them make their games for PC as well... but console is always the focus.

People really believe this? No they did not. That’s was just bullshit PR to try and not make PlayStation owners upset. PC support was a Sony corporate decision last generation with Shawn Layden. It’s from the top. A business decision. A stupid one at that. Not no damn developers.

Even David Jaffe called that interview out with Cory Barlog mentioning that nonsense.

And here's the interview. https://www.gamesradar.com/former-p...bringing-exclusives-to-pc-was-an-easy-choice/

Shawn Layden said that "there's no losing in this transaction" when bringing PlayStation titles to PC. Layden said that he had been one of a number of people considering the release of Sony games on PC ahead of his departure from the company in October 2019, and that "the strategy as were developing it [...] was that we need to go out to where these new customers are, where these new fans could be. We need to go to where they are [...] because they've decided not to come to my house, so I've got to go to their house now."

No it wasn't bullshit... You think Sony fanboys are going to take it easier by hearing that the developers themselves wanted to port the game instead of the fact that the order came from the top?

And yet we're in a thread talking about how out of touch the corporate side is..... lol ok!

No shit the decision ultimately came from the top... and it was the developers that convinced them to do it..

I think they are fine in public relations.
You don't need that social marketing push by fans... it leads to nowhere and in some cases even harm the brand.

Now about the understanding of their base I think they do.
But they want to understand who are not on PS too to get them on PS... so they have to make experimentantions.

Sony Japan controls everything PlayStation. Sony is a Japanese company. If you think a few developers in the west convinced Sony corporate in Japan that PC is a good idea then you are the gullible fruitcake Sony’s marketing was looking to fool.

There’s another recent interview with Cory Barlog where he mention all the developers wanted their games on PC.

David Jaffe says that doesn’t make any sense. Says he’s lying.

As for Sony’s marketing and communication: outside of having no conference for years, I’d say PS5 marketing has been on point. Especially the new Live From PS5 ads. They’re brilliant.

Jaffe has been acting really disgruntled with regards to PlayStation for awhile now, especially with regards to Santa Monica Studio. I wouldn't put much stock into his takes. He also seems to be upset that Sony didn't consult with him before working on certain games like GOW 2018 and the rumored Twisted Metal game/show.

Sony Japan doesn't control everything PlayStation. SIE headquarters are in the US and there is no reason to assume they don't have a lot of autonomy given that all other Sony subsidiaries operate with a lot of independence including overlap and conflicting strategies between them like SIE having a movie production company, Aniplex/Sony Pictures/Sony Music producing their own games, Sony Electronics having their own line of gaming focused products disconnected from PlayStation and so on.

Oh, you think Sony of Japan just decided on their own that it would be a good idea to make these versions of their games and not see what their prize studios thought of it??.... :durrr:

The devs were pushing for this shit... likely because between productions they have a lot of people sitting around doing fuck all that could be making PC versions of games while the new games are in pre-production... Devs WOULD push for that, because that way they don't lose people when they keep them busy...

My biggest problem with them is lack of current gen games I want to play. I get flack for saying that amongst Sony bros but idgaf it's my experience - I have been a Sony faithful since PS2 and this is the longest I've had one of their systems without purchasing a game built from the ground up for the new platform and it's features. Spare me the "I guess you didn't like", no, I was not interested in the PS5 exclusives they've had available. It'll be like 3 years this Christmas that I've had the system and I still don't see a next gen exclusive game on the horizon I want, that's never happened before with a Sony console for me.

I understand where you're coming from, but have a different perspective on these issues. I have the utmost respect for Jim Ryan and PS for not stooping to the level of MS when it comes to the media. Plus, the narrative that MS is controlling is known only to a small number of people online and has no impact on real world things such as game development and hardware/software sales.

For me, what I'm looking for is a company that provides excellent consoles and games. PS delivers on that front and has since I started buying them with the PS1. That's what I care about - not influencers, the media, etc. And, again, if Sony ever stooped to that level it would definitely make a bad impression on me.

Spider-man 2 and Wolverine are the only announced games from internal studios other than the Horizon DLC. Lmao. Factions is likelly crossgen and day one on PC.

FFXVI, FFVII Rebirth, Death Stranding 2 and Rise of Ronin are all made by external studios.

Most of these sound great but if in the next event Sony doesn't blow me away with many big new announcements I'll just assume that everything else is many years away.

I guess I am eyeing FF 16 a bit, forgot about that one. And I will play Spider-man 2 for sure & interested to see how Wolverine shapes up. So yeah a couple on the horizon for me, but it's certainly felt a lot more sparse for me this gen.

I do want to add a weird note that we think of just Twitter being small, but it's really reddit, Discord, gaming websites, youtubers clout chasing, Facebook groups like gaming bible which reach "normies" and spread those gaming website/youtube clickbait misinformation.

Sony would do well to have more transparency with what they're working on/how it's going/blah blah blah. Even if it was just to shut down the bullshit of the week which whilst it might not be their doing, still gets bandied about and reflects badly on them even if it's not true. Their not being more communicative is allowing that to happen.
No company will announce hardware as a response to a leak or rumors going crazy.

Back in 2012 we had pretty complete leaks of the specs of PS4 and xbone, none of the company confirmed or denied them, same for the countless consoles that had leaked before.

Not that I would not like it, but expecting companies to announce whatever they are working on at any given moment, before they are ready, just will not happen.

That's because if you don't count crossgen games they had like 5 games released so far in 2.5 years: Astro Bot (a demo), Demon's Souls (a remake), TLoU Part I (another remake), Returnal and R&C Rift Apart.

They can bother with a port of Sackboy to PC to sell 10k copies but can't remaster Bloodborne? Gtfo... look at all the effort to produce an absolute shit port of TLoU Part I that sold like close to nothing on PC yet they can't bother with a new version of what is arguably From Software best game?

Fuck Sony then and specially Jim Ryan. Couldn't bother with a PS4 Pro patch, couldn't bother with a PS5 patch, couldn't bother with a remaster, couldn't even bother saying anything.

Sony reminds me of R* now, something is off with them.
What, did the original have shit visuals or something? Why do you need a remaster?

Cause it's has poor image quality and bad frame rate. Ridiculous to limit such a classic to those conditions when it can run much better on the PS5.

This is the type of stuff that just shows how much Sony doesn't care and doesn't get it.

Same goes for a lot of games. PS5 could easily run RDR2 at 60fps and maxed out yet you get 30fps and PS4 Pro settings, fucking disgusting. PC player get support for years and get to make use of their hardware while the console version that sold a lot more copies is just ignored. Console players are treated as second class citizens by devs for some reason.

The "support" PC players get is often just enough to keep the game running. And when we don't get it there can be some major league bullshit. Still bitter about not being able to progress in GTA V because I had the wrong graphics card.

Finally people talking about things, and not just getting concern trolling as replies.

I don't believe you're letting social media bubble warp your perception, BryanK. Not only are Sony fumbling their communication, but they're doing to and adding to MS' proven astroturfing/media hype vindictive/underhanded tactics on marketing.

Yurinka, my man, I love you too, but Sony's messaging isn't fine. Anyone else remember the endless fud that followed gaffs like multiple games having confusing/restricted/money-grubbing upgrade paths and bundles. Or the one about TLOU P1 being lazy and not having TLOU2 combat? Could have shown that product in teaser trailers in the years of no shows, received the feedback that most want TLOU2 movements and added a toggle setting. Instead their poor communication and marketing lead to the expected dogpile. They're undermining themselves.

What really made me write this was Square coming out confirming what we all knew.... that Octopath 2 went to PS5 and Switch because Xbox sales were non-existent.

PS leadership could have come out strong gainst the Congress people and MSFT's assertions, they could have embarrassed Xbox and MSFT right there on the public stage but they didn't.... easy wins are being left on the table.

I just don't get it tbh.
