Yes, because I've programmed in both before. Assembly not for production code but training. I also know the industry for the most part (where they are with regards to programming languages, etc.).
Yes, but this is not the same as asm being useless.

I can recall the people who write the low level libraries for the PlayStation systems rewriting some basic library functions specifically for the ps4 and it made them 10 000 times faster, their claim. Obviously games don't run 10 000 times faster, but this may mean that you end up with a more stable frame rate or something like that.

The initial claim was that using asm is useless these days, not that most game devs do not use it because in their circumstances it doesn't help. So you already backed off.

Lower level coding will always be needed for precise optimization, otherwise for example, PS4 and 5 could've kept Cell and engineers could've used updated compilers for SPE's without ever needing to complain about ever having to optimize for it.
PS3 is different. You needed to tap that architecture at low level because it was so convoluted.

PS4/5 are x86 based and have very good APIs.

We'll have to agree to disagree here. I'll concur that asm language programming would be faster than it's C equivalent as an example of hello world. However, I will continue to disagree that it is found in many games today to make the games perform better. What we see in practice is lowered resolution back buffers being the main optimization for getting faster FPS. Cutting out graphics features being 2nd.

All aerated In March 2020:

And DF made a video about the Series X including Minecraft DXR:

And DF made a video about how it was already running over 30fps with little time made by one man work.

You can find others videos.

And now we are entering late 2022 and?

What happened?

Edit - Made a better OP with researched links.

The hardware isn't up to snuff.. as simple as that. Its' one thing to show static scene with multiple rays shot and another to have animation going on.

But didn't MS rely on this feature in its marketing, creating a narrative around their console having enough tera horse power to handle it correctly while the competition just could not?

I would not say it's a complete lie, they were right about the competition's ability to use RT however they pleased... but you know.

It's not like we're talking about the company that shows their "Series X" gameplay running on Windows PCs full specc'd.
