I can recall the people who write the low level libraries for the PlayStation systems rewriting some basic library functions specifically for the ps4 and it made them 10 000 times faster, their claim. Obviously games don't run 10 000 times faster, but this may mean that you end up with a more stable frame rate or something like that.
The initial claim was that using asm is useless these days, not that most game devs do not use it because in their circumstances it doesn't help. So you already backed off.
