Not gonna happen.

Most gamers on every console platform are casual gamers who are not interested in building a PC which costs more money. Most will happily get a console to play FIFA, GTA and COD plus the exclusives that come with the console.

Hardcore gamers are a minority and only they will consider it.

Yes but wouldnt the hardcore be worth the most money?

Why is it about the PC gamer?

Why are we not questioning the PS gamers who could leave for cheaper games, open platform and all the games from Xbox, PS and PC together in one place?

That is the threat.
Because that's not how things work. My closest friends all have the PS5 and we play on it together almost everyday. All of them, including myself own very powerful PC's, yet we play on the Playstation, or Xbox or whatever. The ones that prefer consoles will always game on consoles, and the ones that prefer PC will always game on the PC.

On another note, there are MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of PS4/5 users, that use it for COD and FIFA, I would even dare say it's the majority of Playstation users.
Why don't they play it on PC then, if it's cheaper? We had 120 Million PS4s and GOW 2018 sold 20M copies...most of PS user don't even play 1st party games..

PC isn't hurting them, frankly it's their best asset right now. Truth is they likely fucked up their console design to such a degree that yields are incredibly low. All that overclocking and shifting frequencies undoubtedly results in high numbers of unstable units they can't ship.

That semiconductor shortage is basically over and still they can't get consoles out the door while no one else is really having issues anymore. We've also seen those botched units everywhere which are being sold as Chinese PC's.

They need to ramp up their PC initiative, the community is vastly larger than their own and there is never a threat of lacking hardware.

They are worth more but are a minority.

Yes Sony game sales might see a dip. Right now Sony exclusive games have an attach rate of 10-20%. 80% of PS gamers are not buying Sony games.

The best selling Sony exclusives are Spiderman and Miles Morales which have sold 33 million in total. That's on PS4 and PS5. There are 117 million PS4s in circulation and 20 million PS5s. That's around 25% of PS gamers bought Sonys most successful exclusive. 75% did not.

Subscriptions, Gaas games and Hardware sales will make up for it.

I think ignoring it too much longer would be far worse. You don’t really want Microsoft gaining a gaming monopoly on every other platform

I think sonys current strategy of delayed ports makes the most sense at this point.

Not if people move to PC... though, right?

Explain their lack of units then, by all means. Clearly their yields are a problem.

They claim to be able to hit 18 million this year, I guess only time will tell.

I can see most of my friends on PSN have been able to get one so far.

I would think that the people who flock to CoD and FIFA every year are the same sort of casuals who would flock to a F2P GaaS title too, and the amount people spend in those often dwarfs conventional games alone.

That being said, they also do risk alienating their base, and that's never a good look. Hence trying to find that "sweet spot" as they are now, as well as trying to offer unique experiences like the DualSense, the Tempest Audio, PSVR2 in order to make the investment even more worthwhile.

But between that factor and people being willing to still drop money for a console as it's still overall cheaper than a PC and far less work, it's not like it'd really kill them.

EDIT: Thinking about it, it's also about pleasing their talent as well. Cory Barlog, for example, likes the PC push inasmuch as it lets more people play the games he makes, but also is very unenthused about GaaS titles and prefers to make SP games. That'll also factor into their roadmap to a degree.

XSX has supply issues and it has not been overclocked or anything.
While true it's to a much lesser degree. The point is they're actively losing money because they can't get units out the door. They're well aware of this which is why they have accelerated their PC plans.

That's my biggest worry. Nothing pissed me more than seeing Spiderman being announced for PC on a State of Play for Playstation gamers.

I wonder how many others felt the same.

I guess it depends on a few things. How long between the console and pc releases and how many games keep going to pc in a year. If everything is day and date including the single player then I think they will see a decline in sales of their first party games on Playstation and Playstation hardware will see a decline as will ps plus subs and third party game sales. To what amount we would have to see but people can say that ps will still be fine just coz the casuals that only play fifa and cod will stay on ps but the hardcore audience despite being smaller are the ones paying the most for Playstation games, hardware and services not the casuals. So losing that audience or the majority of that will still result in a dip. So i guess ultimately it depends if they care about losing their hardcore audience to Pc. If they continue to stick with pc ports 2-4 years later then i guess things will stay the same

Same degree of supply issues. Microsoft paid to get more supply.

Most XS consoles being purchased are the XSS which camouflages Microsofts XSX supply issues.
