Xbox’s upcoming Friends & Family Xbox Game Pass price has leaked online in New Zealand, outlining its details and price structure.

The leaked details first appeared from Twitter user @Jawmuncher, revealing that the Family & Friends Game Pass would set people back $39.95. However, it’s understood that this pricing is for New Zealand and conversion rates would put the pass at around $25, or £22.

No pricing on if the Game Pass can be purchased annually or not has yet been revealed.

According to the listing, the Xbox Game Pass Family & Freinds will give ultimate benefits to 5 friends and family members. These benefits include:

  • Include friends and family outside your household
  • Enjoy hundreds of games together including new releases on day one
  • Each account gets their own history, achievements, gamertag, and saves
  • Play at the same time on console, PC & cloud
  • With games added all the time, there’s always something new for everyone

No announcement has yet been made by Xbox, but because the information has already leaked on the New Zealand side, we could expect to see an announcement later today.

So in case it's $25 USD/month, that would be $300/year. If you split it with 5 friends it would be $60/year each.

I understand that if they drop the $1 deal that would be the new trick to have GPU at the cheapest price. But you'd need 4 friends to split costs. So they turn it into some sort of pyramidal scheme as new strategy to grow.

Will get abused just like the 1$ promo.
I assume that their idea with this, like with the $1 promo, the acquisitions and by putting AAA games day one there, is to focus on growing the userbase more than to monetize it.

I assume their plan is to try to get a huge userbase and market share to later slowly figure out how to monetize it better (basically rising prices and removing deals/promotions).

My friend has gamepass paid up for the next 18 months or so, using the £1 deals. He signs into his account on my xbox, sets it as his home xbox and boom, we both have gamepass.

£25? lol.

Why do people pay for Office instead of just using Google docs?

Unfortunately, a lot of businesses prefer to avoid using open source/free things. Especially governments tend to go the "secure" way due to support agreements with MS.

Another reason is also compatibility. Because of how widespread Office products are, people are going to want to make sure that their documents/files can be opened the intended way by others.

And last but not least: you will be surprised by how many people HAVE TO use such products without any technical knowledge. So they get to learn to use the few tools they have to and go into panic mode if for some reason these tools are changed.

For business reasons I had to get Office, but I hate subs so instead of paying for 365, I bought an older license key (2019 I think) for dirt cheap (< 20€). Didn't have to update it until now, but would do the same in case I will have to in the future.

I'd add to that the fact that the paid software also have better support than the free ones, so for companies, they're a must.

Seems stressful micromanaging 3-5 other people paying a monthly bill

It would make more sense to make it an annual plan but it would be harder to convince so many people to pay that much money up front. Better to hope one person signs up for it and gets stuck with the payments

Even at $40, Friends and Family is a steal as long as you have four other people you trust. Less than half price.

Adobe suite is a better example, they brought all their competitors and bundled into the service.
Sounds familiar?

Anyway it seems Microsoft is betting all into gamepass without having alternatives in case the service fails. It’s all or nothing I guess.

I just recently switched from Microsoft Office to Libre Office for personal usage. I still mostly use Google docs though. And yeah, for the home user, there's no reason to still pay for office when for the common mortal alternative solutions are equally as powerful.

Me: Microsoft should simplify its online offerings.
Microsoft: Here's even more options.

Edit: Also, I bet liscencees hate this.

$40 in NZ is about $25 in US. They are trying to undercut the market until it crashes and then they get all the publishers for cheap.

They don't care about making a profit and they never will with that price.

That doesn’t compare well at all to PlayStation Plus pricing.
This is a pretty weird approach, can't people already share Gamepass with guest account? Who is this for?

Seem like it's set up for abuse, if all MS wants is $5 per person they migth as well just go all in on F2P, what a weird direction to push things.

Do people actually split subscription costs? That sounds like a huge pain in the ass. I used to share internet with my best friend and neighbor but I rarely ever got paid (and I never really felt the need to hit them up for it as I would've paid the whole thing for myself either way)... this sounds like the true "welfare pass"??

I have only ever shared a subscription once.
Never done it since as once they stop or skip out on paying its just a waste.
What if one day like everyone does with most subscriptions like Netflix or Disney+ there is nothing you like you cancel and if you are on a "family" plan if you stop paying, that's leaving the bill payer paying up.
As long as everyone pays then all is good or if you have a family that all have it and you can just combine them but other then that i don't see the point.
