Xbox needs to be called out more for its lack of innovation.

Play anywhere is just cross buy extended, Sony did it with vita and ps4, not an innovatuon
Game pass is Netflix movie model, not an innovation and it’s really bad
Quick Resume I can give you that but who cares
Smart delivery is not really innovative, is it? This exists on smartphones for years
Did MS create cloud computing?
Enhanced BC exists since the PS2 lol
Adaptativa controller ok
Did MS create VRS?
Microsoft didn’t create RT
Why are you insulting people?
Vita games lmao pfft. These are full fledged consoles games.

Game Pass is objectively not bad, it's a first in THIS industry which is exactly why Sony is following them into that market.

Who cares about quick resume LOL? On average people are playing anywhere from three to five games at a time, this allows you to continue any one of those games instantaneously from where you were. Yeah, who cares...

Sure it is, this feature automatically partitions the correct download or version of the game to the system. Sony doesn't have this.

Microsoft is a foundational creator in the cloud computing space, and are the only ones to ever push that technology into the gaming space for the sake of additional rendering power.

Microsoft spearheaded variable-rate shading.

Microsoft spearheaded DirectX Ray Tracing for gaming in conjunction with Nvidia.

Nice try at diminishing their contributions though, it was cute.

Cross Buy was even better than that. If I recall correctly I bought Thomas Was Alone once on PS3 and was essentially gifted them on Vita and PS4 when those ports were later available. And I think there was 3way cross save too?

I need to go look into what the creator is making these days.

So? Still the same.

It actually sucks for AAA and high budget games since it doesn't get the same revenue sales would get. Sony will never but something like Ragnarok day one on PS+

Quick Resume is a niche feature that barely alters user experience
Sure it is, this feature automatically partitions the correct download or version of the game to the system. Sony doesn't have this.
Like smartphones do since forever
Microsoft is a foundational creator in the cloud computing space, and are the only ones to ever push that technology into the gaming space for the sake of additional rendering power.
Nope:

Microsoft spearheaded variable-rate shading.
That's an Nvidia product
Microsoft spearheaded DirectX Ray Tracing for gaming in conjunction with Nvidia.
RT is not an innovation, it exists for years and has been used in CG movies for decades
Nice try at diminishing their contributions though, it was cute.
I just demolished every single thing you said

Play Anywhere
Game Pass
Quick Resume
Smart Delivery
Cloud Computing
Enhanced Backward Compatability
Adaptive Controller
DXR
VRS

I mean are you clowns for real lmao?
Adaptive controller, yes. I've publicly praised it multiple times. 10/10, great stuff.

But other stuff? Hell no.

- Play Anywhere is nothing new. Sony had it two generations ago.
- Game Pass is no innovation. This is just a basic sub model; I'v addressed it in the OP.
- QR would be great if you could turn it off. Atm, it just consumes 50+ GB on the already expensive storage. Either way, it doesn't do anything to move the gaming industry forward.
- Smart Delivery is just stupid delivery. It's nothing new (mobile have been doing it for years). For Xbox SS, it also downloads the XSX version, inflating the file size of the game. In the end, it just doesn't let you download the Xbox One version. And PlayStation does the same thing by the way. If you press download on a cross-gen game on a PS5, it automatically downloads the PS5 version. But unlike Xbox, it gives you an option of downloading the PS4 version if you want to.
- Cloud -- Xbox didn't do anything lol
- BC -- Sony has been doing it since PS2.
- DXR -- lol
- VRS - Mark Cerny filed the VRS patent lol. Xbox didn't do jack.

It sure does. But people are just dumb, cause they will forget, forgive and praise them because they bought a publisher for few billions for a week or so. And then rebolote.

I see lots of words and nothing in the way of games. Do you play VRS? Is quick resume a GOTY contender?

GamePass is pretty innovative
No its not. It's a better marketed PSNow with the ability to download all games on it, paired with better backwards compatability and a Day 1 Release gimmick.

What has Xbox innovated and contributed to the gaming industry in the last 10 years?

We hear about the famous "Microsoft war chest" so often from Xbox fanboys on the internet, but what innovation has that war chest led to? Considering one of the richest companies in the world owns the Xbox brand, the lack of industry-defining innovation by Xbox is almost criminal and must be called out more by the media.
  • Innovation in controller feedback? Nintendo introduced HD rumble, and Sony perfected it with DualSense Haptic Feedback.
  • Innovation in controller triggers? Sony introduced adaptive triggers.
  • Innovation in portables? Nintendo introduced the Switch that revitalized portables.
  • Innovation in storage solutions? Sony built 2x faster SSDs and I/Os in a commercial PS5 unit and integrated it with Kraken and Oodle for amazing results.
  • Innovation in audio? Sony introduces a custom Tempest 3D engine with over 100 sound sources, while Xbox remains stuck with third-party solutions.
  • Innovation in game engines? Xbox has the Slipspace Halo Infinite engine to show for it, while companies like Epic, Sony, and Capcom innovated with UE5, Decima, and the RE Engine.
  • And so many other examples.
MS and Xbox have contributed nothing to the industry or its evolution for over a decade now.

What's worse is that they haven't even been able to take lesser-known ideas to the mainstream, for example:
  • Sony, a 10x smaller company, is leading the charge with VR in the console industry with state-of-the-art tech and features. While Xbox, with the infinite war chest and ~25 studios, is too scared to jump into the VR space (even after years of fake promises that it will).
The only "innovation" by Xbox in the last 10+ years is to take the Netflix model and copy-paste it into the gaming industry with Gamepass -- which, by the way, is still the least popular gaming subscription service after ~5 years (behind PS+ and Nintendo Online in sub count).

With so much money, Xbox should have been leading the charge with new tech and innovations for the gaming industry. And the lack of innovation and contribution should be called out by the media and gaming fans more.
But 500+ controllers though?

PSNow launched 3,5 years before of it, how can it be innovative?
Yeah ps now is a subscription service that existed before hand.. but gamepass is the Netflix of gaming. Day one big time releases, reward system, discount on games, paid online included in ultimate, cloud anywhere u go with it on any device etc. When people bring up PlayStation Now they reek of desperation imo

Quick Resume

Enhanced Backward Compatability

I do like these features.

Quick Resume is something I want on PS5 and future consoles. I like having a selection of a few games ready to start off where I ended.

And they have done the best job of BC So far. Apart from Jet Set Radio Future not being on the later xbox stores lol

I think what they made of the 360store/ Live service/Arcade etc with Xbox 360 was pretty great and moved the industry forward.

But Xbox was also the first lot to get timed exclusive DLC. Yes MS made timed exclusive DLC a thing
