Hahaha. While 2022 is obviously after Xbox One ended, I only played and completed a total of eight games on the console. The games -
- Ryse: Son of Rome
Good 7.0/10, I see it in the same way as I see The Order 1886. A visual/technical showcase for the console but with a great story and characters that should 100% have gotten a sequel. Gameplay/combat wise is good and enjoyable but way too QTE heavy. I believe that both games would have been awesome with a sequel because they had everything except for the combat/gameplay. They fix that up and it's an easy 80+ rated game.
- Dead Rising 3
Another good 7.0/10. I didn't like this game all that much and didn't technically complete it because there's a timed sequence at the end that I couldn't beat. Of course, im not a Dead Rising fan at all and wish the franchise would stay dead and buried. Capcom has Resident Evil and doesn't need to zombie games when Dino Crisis is sitting there rotting away. UGH.
- Halo 5: Guardians
I played this in Summer 2024 when I binged through all the Halo games pre-Infinite. I rated it a 7.0/10 if I remember correctly. Looks and sounds great so those aspects would have carried the game. Didn't like the story or anything related to it. Combat was solid but the overall gameplay, I didn't like because you're with a team the entire game when I want to be a loner and most of all, you barely play as Master Chief which is who I want to play as.
- Rise of the Tomb Raider
This was obviously what started Square Enix's path down towards timed/full exclusivity until present day. Game itself is fucking excellent and the best of the reboot trilogy by far. Bought an Xbox One ROTTR bundle mainly just for this game because I wasn't waiting. With that said, I kind of cheated on my lists as I moved this to the PS4 list in 2016 so I could award it my 2016 GOTY because Uncharted 4/Gears of War 4 were both a disappointing 8.5/10 for me while ROTTR was never ever going to beat out The Witcher 3 for me so I moved it from 2015 Xbox One to 2016 PS4. Fun fact is that I bought it at release for PS4 Pro but never replayed it. An excellent 9.5/10 in my opinion. Loved this game and hopefully the next TR game follows this structure and setup.
- Quantum Break
Great 8.0/10 game. I'm not a big Remedy fan. Alan Wake 1 and 2 are literally two of the most boring fucking games that I have ever played. Dropped Alan Wake at the halfway point and Alan Wake 2 when you first take over Alan and he's in a studo or some shit. Anyway, this is the only Remedy game that I have ever completed since the original Max Payne. Great story and characters. Love the sci-fi stuff. Combat/gameplay wise, Control is better but I never completed it as I didn't like the structure or the story/characters. Enjoyed Quantum Break but would never replay it.
- Gears of War 4
Great 8.5/10 but nowhere near Gears 1 and 2. Enjoyed it for the most part. Hated that mech segment later on in the game. It sucked.
- Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden
Great 8.0/10 turn based strategy RPG. Really enjoyed this game. Played it on Xbox One over PS4 because it was day one on Game Pass.
- Gears of War 5
An excellent 9.0/10. Love the first, second and fourth chapters of the game. Enjoyed the story and characters. Plays great as all Gears games do. Only disliked the desert area but this is my least favorite environment in gaming and the open world stuff was basic. Worse aspect is the forced choice you make at the end of the game.
Obviously, three of the games are on PS4 but when people say that Xbox One had the better launch lineup and the better lineup through 2015, I completely agree because it did. 2016 was even in my opinion but 2017 through 2020 was a slaughter in favor of PlayStation 4. So many people here repeatedly say that the previous generations of Xbox were better than Series X/S and im like, for me, no fucking way in hell. Vast majority of it all was a fucking joke. Barely any studios, nothing beyond Halo/Gears/Forza and nothing really there for me personally.
This fact alone is why I don't care about Nadella making Xbox go more multi-console/platform because im finally getting games that I actually want to play which forever will be far more important to me than any form of exclusivity because exclusive or not, if im not interested in playing the game, it won't be played. Exclusives are great and all but I never once played a game because it was exclusive. I play games because I actually want to play through them.
Hope this helps.
