Come on guys, why bother commenting if he pisses you off that much?
Let him do his thing, and Jim Ryan will do his.

I don't give a shit. Xbox keeps feeding my gamepass sub, Sony keeps giving me great games.

@Yurinka : I was talking about home console market.

~30% in a 3 horse race is hardly small lol They were the lead platform for the 360/PS3 generation for 3rd party games for quite some time in that generation. In the end we mostly talk about games coming to Playstation/Xbox on enthusiasts forums like these because those 2 companies are competing in a bit of a sub-market by themselves. Huge chunk of AAA games just don't go anywhere else, including the successful Switch.. because it's success has been in differentiating itself from the pack.

Either way that ignores what I was saying about MS being influential.. they absolutely have been, for better or worse.

Yep, thats what i keep trying to tell my fellow sony stans. Jim Ryan will be the one who is equipped to go toe to toe with Microsoft right now with the moves they’re making. They need a business forward person thinking about long term, Jim knows they don’t stand a chance if they dont start knocking out some successful service games and increasing their wingspan of their IP beyond the console.

Microsoft is slowly going to eat away at every other market if Sony don’t play this generation smart. They need big multiplayer, they need PC presence, and they need to utilize their power in multimedia entertainment to grow their IP.

This stuff sounds boring and anti-gamer to fans but its whats gonna keep sony in the position they’re in. It’s clear what Microsoft is doing and they’re underestimating Sony right now because they aren’t a big tech company, but they still have more influence and they need to utilize it while they can.

If you hate the direction Sony is going in now you’re gonna be absolutely over it once Microsoft starts gaining leverage over them and dictates even more of how they do business

Jim Ryan is a pure business man and he's going to do whatever is best for Sony's business and what brings in more revenue for PlayStation. Increasing the wingspan of their IP beyond the console is a great way of putting it because while consoles are great, the IP's are far more valuable and in order to get more out of them, Sony needs to start expanding them onto PC and cloud streaming because it will get more consumers into the platform and eco-system via other ways besides just the traditional console.

I agree. Sony has started to adapt and will continue to do so. They need to and eventually will put their games on PC day one because it will grow the respective IP's. I don't know why so many PlayStation fans are against this. It's not like they're going on Xbox or Switch. lol. PC is the ultimate neutral gaming system when you think about it because if a publisher wants to, everything can go on it. I do believe that Sony will hit with at least 2 or 3 online live service multi-player games including TLOU Factions.

I'm not into the online multi-player stuff but I will say that it's definitely not boring. This generation has been the most interesting, intriguing and unexpected that I have ever seen or followed and I started with NES. Microsoft has simply changed the game because they're being very aggressive and pro-active with what they want to do in regards to their direction.

I don't hate the direction that Sony is going (or Microsoft for that matter). As long as get my console exclusives and some great single player games throughout the generation, im a happy gamer!! And I do play a lot of multi-platform games so even if I get less games this gen than last gen from Sony, I still plenty of other publishers, developers and games to make up for it.

In general, I said it a few times already, PlayStation fans simply need to accept and adapt because at the end of the day, they can't do anything about it and more importantly, since they're not Xbox gamers/fans, where would they go??? Nintendo? lmao

As per Sir Ryan

“I think some of the art that our studios are making is some of the finest entertainment that has been made anywhere in the world,” Ryan continued. “And to kind-of gate the audience for the wonderful art, wonderful entertainment that our studios are making… to gate the audience for that at 20 or 30 million frustrates me. I would love to see a world where hundreds of millions of people can enjoy those games.”

Somewhere in the interview he wants to acquire studios in regions theyre not very big in AKA Japan I guess. Best case scenario they go after sega or somehow government of japan blocks them because sony and or nintendo protest. Anything else is a worst case scenario for sony.

And this is why SIE shouldve always been a priority for sony. They should have never sold their shares of SE, on the contrary they should have bought more. From soft was sold for pennies on the dollar, shouldve gotten them. Instead sony is caught flatfooted and out gunned money wise. Its insane that by being so dependant on third parties, they never sought ownership of key third party partners, even if just stock percentage buyouts. Even backwards nintendo has some stock in Sqaure and Bandai Namco.
Im tired of Sony being caught flat footed though.

What's the point of working relationship with Ballistic Moon now with ex-SuperMassive devs, when you should have invested in them before even Bamco? Literally like 10 years too late, and especially gauling in light of Telltale dying, RAD going to Meta/FB, and Quantic Dreams turning into Nightmares by most accounts.

Reading the article, idk why people are reacting so negatively? He isn’t saying anything substantial.

“We’ll see less games made exclusively for one device”. Isn’t this just common sense? MS has stopped making a vast majority of their games exclusive to one device years ago. Now Sony has started doing the same. Nintendo will not follow. But he’s right, there will be less and less just by virtue of Sony bringing their games to PC.

Thats the beauty of phil Spencer/microsoft pr, they never really say anything substantial or controversial, its the most corporate blanketed nothing statements that get cheered into oblivion because it comes off “good guy”. Gamers dont know what corporate media training is

It's the same 3-4 topics he keeps re-cycling on with roughly the same answers.

People just care too much about the man and his PR-machine mouth. "Good guy Phil" is corny, but not worth all this fuss lol

Honestly the most interesting thing about Spencer/other's at MS's PR stuff about exclusivity and how people keep reading it as though they are planning to just be multi-plat, when in reality.. they are kinda saying the opposite.

I don't see how they could make even less Xbox AAA exclusives, they released zero in 2022.
And won publisher of the year in 2021. 2023 should be real interesting.

It was an interview and he was answering questions. Execs do that all the time. If you don't care about what Phil says anyone is free to ignore him.

If Sony decides they want to do day and date on console or even PC I'll be happy. Until then, Gamepass day and date it is.

Edit. I only got through a page and a half and the hate is INCREDIBLE!. Ya'll should relax and dial it back. So many of you hate this man. It's unbelievable. What he says doesn't affect you so why let it get you so riled up? I'll never understand some of you.

not gonna happen

It will. Don't understand why PlayStation fans believe that Microsoft is going to keep future ABK game releases (or just COD) multi-platform as if all the studios acquired since 2018 wasn't proof or even at a higher level, the Bethesda acquisition wasn't proof. I just don't get it. Once contracts are done, PlayStation fans better go buy some chap stick and pucker up their lips so they can kiss all those games goodbye.

I agree. I wish I knew what Sonys mindset was. Fromsoft, super massive, quantic dream, ready at dawn, Atlus, Kojima productions it’s like they have no respect for their second party partners and as soon as they get a hit they’re all of a sudden too big or too good to work with Sony again. I don’t know if it’s Sonys fault or the other companies but with so many names mentioned it can’t all be coincidence and Sony is the only consistent factor. I guess Sony never foresaw a bigger company than them ever taking gaming seriously and now since Microsoft has infinite budget and zero standards for growth Sony is just a deer in the headlights. At this rate I’m more convinced we’ll see gamepass on PlayStation than Sony make the necessary moves to stay on top. Sad to say.

They’ve shown no indication that they have any interest in competing with Microsoft on the acquisition front and now they have tencent to worry about too. Square at the very least should’ve already had a ring on their hand but with them looking to create a new western studio I’m not even sure Sonys in discussions with them because that doesn’t seem like a move you’d make if you’re about to be acquired, in my opinion. I just don’t know what Sonys goal even is anymore. Milk the last of us til the last drop and hope that’s enough to go up against Microsoft and tencent? Are they that stupid?

It’s well and good they’ve gotten a few garage sale studios and bungie, but they don’t have any rpg studios. Not a single jrpg studio. Sony did a lot to prop up final fantasy, resident evil, metal gear solid, gta, but all of those games are owned by different companies and it’s unrealistic to assume they can lock down or acquire the rights to even one of those at this current rate. For a division that propped Sony up they really seem nonchalant about the massive changes happening in the industry at the moment.

That's fair, because the point is -- whether his decisions are popular or not -- Jimbo walks the talk.

If he says that his games want a bigger audience, he takes steps to get to that goal -- releasing on PC and bringing IPs to mobile devices.

Phil only lies. He talks about less exclusive games and letting people where they want and what device they want and not gatekeeping, and then chooses to buy multiplatform publishers and make previously multiplatform games exclusives.
