    I think it is all about demographics, not necessarily bad hero design, but rather Hey, this character looks like you. This character might not appeal to you or me but it surely does appeal to someone out there, and that's what they are aiming for.

    The pronoun bit could be a sort of Parady, just for one character only, that robot. I am probably stretching it; let's be honest here; all characters probably have backstories of how they fought the patriarchy, burnt the bra and saved Democracy.

    I think this game will be dead within 6 months of its release, if not dead, doing very low numbers. And are they expecting people to pay money to purchase this? Surely, it needs to be free to play, with selling cosmetics/skin to make money.
