Speaking as someone who owns Village and RE4R on macOS, it pains me a little to see ‘PC’ instead of WIN/MAC. By the end of this year 4 of those games will be on macOS and iOS. Capcom going after all the platforms. Interesting to see the shift over time.
Regardless, thanks for the data.
What would happen if Nintendo released a AAA capable console in November 2030? That would be 5 years after the Switch 2 and in the middle of the PS6 era.
If Sony did these novelty cross platform releases rarely, maybe twice in a gen, I'd say it was a good bit of PR to reach out to other markets. But with a back drop of porting nearly everything to other platforms it just looks a mess. Asking for a competent competitor to show up.
Yeah, I think Apple are getting a bit ahead of themselves with such big games. Feels more like proof of concept and prestige of getting there first rather than getting it to work well. That said, this is probably the long term evolution of portable devices, able to dock with larger screens...
That's a fair point.
Anyone with a Steam account, take a look at your 2023 year in review. It has stats for playtime based on the age of games.
The percentage of Steam playtime in games released:
in 2023: 9%
in the last 1-7 years: 52%
8 or more years ago: 38%
Playstation are dominating their sector of the market, and yet this PC porting strategy completely lacks ambition. It looks like trying to squeeze a few extra dollars from their catalogue in the simplest way possible at the risk of undermining console sales.
They should be using their position...
I think scores are the problem. There will never be consistency from different sources.
All you need is YES / NO / MAYBE
This is why I find steam reviews are generally more helpful, even though it doesn't have a 'maybe' option.
For $70 billion I'd rather have Valve than ABK, so this seems a bit backwards.
Even so, I can imagine Sarah Bond right now, stuffing a briefcase with $16 billion dollaroos and a couple of Xbox T-shirts. Such genius' that they are.
IMO. Playstation has been picking up some people from Xbox. Switch is picking up people from both Playstation and Xbox. Also think many are exiting console and settling for low/mid PC gaming (including Steamdeck) in a market saturated with games (deals and free on big older titles). Also...
If they did make the mistake of sending out gifts the day before firing hundreds of staff, then it's time for collectors of extinct company merch to check ebay.
