How original.

The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is codenamed "Latitude" internally, and I know there's debate and unease at Microsoft about whether or not this is a good idea. More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed. While it's true Microsoft is a prolific publisher on PlayStation already, it has typically revolved around specific franchises like Minecraft. From what I've heard, Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's plans to increase every department's margins.

With their hardware sales there is not even debate at all.
The discussion was probably about how to make the move with the less damage to Xbox brand and which titles plus frequency they will release to test waters.

The decision was probably taken years ago... maybe 2022 or even before that.

And the chances to they move fully to PS5 releases is so big like even if Sea of Thieves sells average in PS terms it will be a mega hit in Xbox terms.

Yes, definitely agree. They are planning cautiously when and how to advertise the big games coming to PS. At this point thy have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

That is why I guess there is no opposition to the ideia.
But more opposition to which games / dates they will do it :D

The ideia to move to 3rd-party publishing at Microsoft should be already consensus.
It probably had sides years ago but not in the recent years... to be fair pre-COVID probably it had a big opposition to the ideia internally at MS but after-COVID that side dried up.

COVID give a shake up in a lot of companies and made them rethink their business.

Outside gaming I saw restaurants that were opposite to digital/delivery (only worked by physical presence) that changed the whole business of decades to find that digital/delivery gives more $$$ than physical only presence :D
Something that without COVID they probably should never try due the antiquate ideias that restaurantes should be about physical presence when both can work (digital delivery and physical) amazingly well.

PS. When I talk about digital delivery for restaurantes are restaurantes selling food via digital apps and delivering it to the buyer homes.

Exactly, it's just a case of when. Of the newer games I'm expecting Starfield and Hellblade to be announced this year.

Sounds like a Dell computer....
What they could do?

Xbox was dying with their support or not.
So they choose at least find a way to make money.

It was one of the few smart Xbox decision (and yes I don't think it come from Uncle Phil... he seems incapable to have these smart ideias... he will probably lie to you to sell his used car no matter the state of it).

Public companies and their need for infinit growth chasing quick profits every quarter are a disgrace. I wish everyone could have a long term vision.
Tell me about the long term vision for Xbox? What they could have done that could work that they didn't in over a decade?

They long term vision already expired.

these xbox people like Jez Corden live in a world where they think Xbox consoles still have a chance of selling like PS and Nintendo, no matter how much exclusives they have, it won't change, last year they had -30% drops despite Starfield, Forza Motorsport and Hi-Fi Rush. now this year, Hellblade 2 releases in 1 week and you don't even see Xbox fans talking about it, let alone the casual audience, the entire Xbox brand is undesirable, it's been 10 years of mismanagement of studios and mediocre games, you can't fix that with exclusives anymore, people are not going to buy an Xbox to play them

Because it is only a year and so a weak year.

How Sony changed PS3 fate?

From 2009 onward they released 3-4 big AAA titles that scored 88+ on Meta per year.
They didn’t miss any year.

If MS could do that for days like 3, 4, 5 consecutive years the Xbox brand should increase.

350 success was about games being released regularly until 2010 but they leaned nothing from it and after 2010 you barely saw exclusives games on Xbox anymore.

MS doesn’t launch exclusives for a over decade… how they believe they can sustain a platform business?

I think it came concurrently with the ABK purchase decision. That gives them just enough time to do those first four ports, which then also makes sense because at that point why hold back?

the time to repair Xbox was last gen during the Xbox One, not this current gen, this gen needed to release with an incredible Halo game in the likes of the first 4 games, they launched the console without any games, 2022 had nothing but Pentiment and then they overpromised with Starfield only to disappoint many, they simply don't have the competence to run a successful console brand, it'll never change, the best thing they can do is turn into a third party publisher and sell games, GamePass should also be discountinued, at least the day one releases of it

You can't really blame Microsoft in this case. They gave Phil Spencer more than ten years and billions of dollars to turn things around and he tanked the brand even harder than Don Mattrick.
