If it's a success they should sell them as well, take that money and use on something else. Sell them to MS for all I care.

Bungie never fit in with Sony, they have always been an outlier. It never made any sense to buy them.

How so? Sony announced Bungie's acquisition in January 2022 and some months later they announced plans to bring 12 live service games to the market by 2026.

Regardless of how plans have changed, Sony acquiring the developer of a major success story in live service games made perfect sense at the time.

Only company they want Sony to buy is square. Considering how Square continues to be a bad bet and has struggled for a decade outside of the mmo… lols

The live service push happened before the bungie purchase did it not? The culling happened after them with the review board etc…

And to think plans have changed is … not true? They’re still all in on live service but are just doing risk assessments as they should. This stuff ain’t easy… just look at the recent decline for helldivers… if this was palword these clowns would be talking a ton of shit.

Perhaps Sony would have saved Square from themselves, but it's nonetheless a bad bet. If anything, because it's an old company being run by old and traditional people that would be hard to put in line.

Yes. Before showing the intention of releasing those 12 games until 2026 they had already planned to release a lot, like 10 or so.
But Bungie was an acquisition that fell in line with the plans they'd been announcing for years.

The scale at which they wanted to focus on live service definitely changed, but Helldivers 2 might change that again.

The decline on Helldivers is probably very solvable IMO. They just need to send away the guy Alexus Kravchenko doing all the nerfs. He's simply sucking away all the fun from the game and it looks like he already has a history of ruining other games in the past (Hello Neighbor 2 IIRC).

They also need some new content that isn't just another warbond with useless weapons. There haven't been new stratagems in months despite us knowing they have friggin' multi-seat humvees already working in the game's code (running from one end to the other in the game is such a drag sometimes).
And 2 days ago they put a new stratagem (new mines) behind a major order that was completely impossible to achieve, so players are just not caring about the game anymore.

This FY Bungie revenue will increase ~100% and everybody will talk about Bungie crazy increase YoY :p

People didn't realize Bungie has one game... and a expansion for that game in FY2023 was delayed to FY2024 and that caused a drop in 48% of the revenue.

Yes, both are doing great, around 100K peak in the middle of a week means they are some of the most popular games on Steam.

Sony bought Bungie as a big part of their expansion to multiplatform and GaaS (in addition to multiplayer and shooters). This after Sony was the publisher for Japan of Destiny 1 & 2 and had a worldwide marketing deal for both, and being both games some of the most popular games on PS. And they make a lot of money and are a good help for their other GaaS team.

So it was a good acquisition that makes sense.
