Horizon is literally Monster Hunter, of course it can be translate to a MP focused game within the same universe.
But that is still contingent on development team being able to deliver such a product, which is never a sure thing.
Horizon is not monster hunter, its...Horizon. Monster Hunter wasnt "Monster Hunter" until like its third or fourth entry. There have been multiple monster hunter clones and alot of them dont go anywhere. For example that EA published MH clone. I also dont understand the point of make a MH clone when the real MH is extremely popular on your platform.

Tell me how does the combat play and what game resembles it the most?

Well yes, that's how it usually happens.
It's hard to copy somebody at the top and do it good enough to carve your own place.
Hard but not impossible.

I guess Sony should never do a FPS because it'll just be a clone of every other recent shooters.

Well unfortunately and tbh yes thats a very logical business decision to do

why pay hundreds of people when ai tool can do the job for you for free and at a much faster rate?

Maybe now AI are more limited and restrained

But in the future who knows

Just like PC graphic card as technology progress AI will also get better

Even now its already beating talent artist job that used to take weeks or month into just couple hours
The AI tool can also do the job for all the other games you are competing against. Might as well just get out of the gaming business then.

I'll believe it when I see it, so far that best and most impressive games aren't the ones with an AI filter that improves IQ or that make them look more realistic.

you're reading that out of context though. I could be reading too much into it, but look at this

I read all that as "our approach didn't work, we have to change". The way I read into it is "we were unable to deliver the immersive, narrative-driven stories that PS studios is known for, and thus we had to reevaluate how we do business"

In the midst of all the shit, this actually makes me hopeful.
I can see how you'd interpret it that way, but unfortunately I really don't think so, time will tell

He can enter with this comparison and would win so hard

"MS market cap is far bigger than Sony's, we can buy them cash"

Sony

MS

Sony is way smaller than MS/Xbox
Win what exactly , we're talking about mass layoffs. It's not a competition, although I would say a trillion $ conglomerate that just completed the most expensive gaming acquisition to date & boasts about being in a unique position to outspend Sony out of business is the worst offender

PS Fanboys here:
“Jim Ryan is a war hero, he single-handedly destroyed Xbox” 🤡🤡🤡
“Let’s put all resources in AAA Hollywood blockbusters” 🤡🤡🤡
“Proceed to Censor and reduce Japanese gaming output”🤡🤡🤡

Jim Ryan worshippers are the most cringe people on earth. Jimbo is nothing but a old geezer and Japan hating bigot.

Having PSVR2 as a product and not supporting it was very, very dumb.
No support for the best vr headset on the market
No games (comparatively)
Failing to capitalise on a market where they had no competition (vr)

Why do you act as if Horizon CoM, Gran Turismo 7 VR, Firewall Ultra ,Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, Resident Evil Village VR, Resident Evil 4 VR, the upcoming Metro VR and many other games of its first year, with a bigger support than any other VR device year one featuring more AAA IPs and big VR names than ever, doesn't exist?

Also, Sony is happy with its performance, outperforming PSVR1.

PSVR has almost the totality of the non standalone (high end) VR gaming market, and around a third of the market when also counting standalone Android based ones (low end) like Oculus 2 and previous. Even if it's a market on its early stages, VR gaming is growing every year at a good pace and Sony is well positioned. Specially now that apparently they will open it to PC.

Launching the portal and not a dedicated handheld was very, very dumb.
Pushing half-baked product (portal)
PS Vita was a big failure, there's no market outside Nintendo for dedicated portable consoles that require dedicated games. But somewhere in the future a PC handheld that doesn't require dedicated games would make sense

Sony just mantioned they are very happy with PS Portal performance, which exceeded their expectations. Once they release PS cloud gaming cliend for Android and put it there will work even better.

I think for the next generation they'll do a PS Portal 2 that will be not only a PS6 remote play accesory and PS cloud gaming portable client, but a portable PC that also will run Sony's PC and Android games featuring crossbuy, crosssave, crossplay between all platforms.

That's to say nothing of chasing GaaS and always online tripe.
They had a very successful result with GaaS recently with MLB, Gran Turismo 7 (and Sport), Helldivers 2 and Destiny 2. And for the upcoming ones, make sure at least Concord and Marathon will be even bigger hits.

Ignore core user base
Total bullshit, their first party games and exclusives are selling better than ever. And most of the best selling, top grossing and most played games of their platform are MP, shooters or GaaS, so expand in these 3 areas is giving their core userbase more of what they want.

Chasing PC and mobile crowds.
PC and mobile are bigger markets than console, even more than PS. They have the majority of gaming players and revenue. AAA games are very expensive to make, and as shown with this layoff they need more revenue and profit. Which PC is already giving them and mobile will give them too in the future. This is why Sony and all the other publishers are also chasing it.

It's simply astonishing how a company that saw dominating success for four generations and for 30 years by doing the same thing, thought it was better a good idea to follow their competitor off of a cliff.
Sony aren't. They are more successful than ever and have been taking wise and smart long term decisions, including this hurtful layoff.

One big blow very rarely kills a brand, but a thousand cuts always does.
This layoff, which I assume an important part of them will be in gamedev studios and not only in non gamedev SIE offices, will help them cutting less productive people or initiatives, reducing costs and become more profitable. It won't negatively affect the brand.

What's funny is the post you were responding to wasn't even console warring. I was predicting what I already know will happen on places like twitter and reset era.

Tell me how does the combat play and what game resembles it the most?
Horizon was inspired by MH, but instead of playing in small arenas you play in a large open world, and instead of focusing beating a fewer huge enemies in very long combats mostly focused on coop, Horizon focus more against a bigger amount smaller enemies and is SP only. Horizon also focuses more in the interaction with NPCs to focus more in the lore and the narrative part of the RPGs.

But hey, it's true that since the first game Guerrilla wanted to include coop but had to cut it to ship the game on time.

The Horizon Online game pretty likely originated from that idea of an Horizon coop MP mode, obviously inspired by MH (and more).

Well yes, that's how it usually happens.
It's hard to copy somebody at the top and do it good enough to carve your own place.
Hard but not impossible.

I guess Sony should never do a FPS because it'll just be a clone of every other recent shooters.
All companies copy/use as reference other successful games or get ideas for them.

As an example, the first Super Mario Bros, plus its sequels and Super Mario World took stuff from previous successful sidescroller platformers like Pac Land as said by Miyamoto. And in more relatively recent Mario games and spinoffs they copied things from Little Big Planet, Tearaway or Pupppeteer (4P coop+competitive MP, platformer with level editor integrated, whooly worlds, papercraft worlds, Puppeteer scissor mechanic, 2.4D happening inside a theathre as a puppet show...).

trying to keep Bungie afloat in this economy fucked them
With their Halos, Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 Bungie is one of the most successful studios in gaming history, they keep themselves afloat by far and provide a lot of revenue and profit to Sony.

And on top of that, thanks to their help GaaS games from other studios like Helldivers 2 will be also super successful.

The reality of the stupid shitting on Xbox doesn't mean crap because MS is always there to cover their losses, meanwhile PS doesn't have that much money to cover the losses, few more flops like LittleBigPlanet on PC and the 10years in development The Last Guardian and PS will port their games to Switch/Xbox if they have to to make money
The thing is that unlike the MS Gaming division, PS has no loses to cover. In addition to make more revenue than any console maker in gaming history, PS is also pretty profitable, but decided to reinvest most of the game they made on making way more games at the same time than ever before, sign more 2nd and 3rd party deals than ever before, to grow all their studios and make acquisitions, plus improve their services (PS Plus+Now integration etc) and accesories and expand to PC, movies and tv shows and in the future mobile.

So far all these moves have been smart and are working super well, but many of them are long term investments whose results will be seen in future years. Because things like making AAA games with all these acquired or hired people takes many years.
