The company held an internal Tuesday townhall where Spencer told employees that there were no plans to stop making consoles, and that Xboxes would continue to be part of a strategy that involves multiple kinds of devices. Xbox did not immediately return a request for comment.

Didn’t he also pose with the Blizzard folks celebrating the partnership a week or so before layoffs? Just sayin’

Did he say they’re not publishing games on PS and Nintendo?

A few months ago, he said there are no plans to put Game Pass on PlayStation and Nintendo.
Now he's saying there are no plans to stop making Xbox consoles.

He failed to debunk the multiplatform rumors twice now.

So third party OEMs it is, including maybe a Microsoft version? No exclusive 1st party games though

I assume the next Xbox will just be a straight-up computer running regular Windows 11. Why wouldn't it? At least that way you can play Xbox games AND the PlayStation games that end up hitting Steam. That's the closest they'll possibly get to evening the playing field out. No point in putting up a fence around your own competitor's turf after you've torn down your own around yours.

They will hang on, despite crappy sales. It's more of a matter of pride, and Game Pass subscribers are heavily tied to console. Getting out of hardware will be one of the most humiliating things for them.

That's too smart for Microsoft leadership

This is what I think too, but I don't know how MS will incorporate Steam or other non-xbox games/stores.

It's clear that Xbox isn't going to stop producing consoles mid-gen. They'll even do something next gen, slowly pivoting away from traditional boxes to something more focused on Game Pass as a service (an entry-level local play machine like the Series S and/or streaming boxes for xCloud).

What they do after that remains a mystery, but I wouldn't count on them surviving in the console market much longer. They've had 20 years to achieve their goals and they have consistently finished third in the race. Yes, even the 360 ended up in third place in terms of sales. And its dominance in the early years did obviously not translate to anything positive for the Xbone.

Anyway, whatever Spencer is saying now means nothing. His speech is hollow. It doesn't address a single important point from the past couple weeks, and it does not certainly not do anything to put out any fire created by the rumors, loud whispers and small pieces of evidence here and there that amount to a mountain now.

We'll see what happens next week, but I'm pretty sure that all the xbots who are now claiming victory and dismissing all the breadcrumbs pointing to Xbox's dropping from the race are in for a rude awakening.

They would be dumb to stop making hardware and never made any business sense anyways.

Uncle Phil.

No rumor is saying Microsoft will stop to make consoles.

The rumors says you will release first-party games on PlayStation and Switch… what you have to say about the actual rumor?

What people is discussing is that without first-party as exclusives, consumers won’t buy Xbox and retailers won’t made orders.

You can continue producing Xbox ad Infinite.
