Update 4/22

Ever since the GTA 6 trailer dropped, it was clear that visuals would be a huge part of the game. According to analysis, it showed a heavy emphasis on ray-traced shadows and reflections.

Several months later, a new listing confirms that GTA 6 will indeed focus on ray-tracing for its visuals.

Why it matters:
This would make GTA 6 Rockstar Games’ first AAA game to be built around ray-tracing.
Rockstar job listing

According to a job listing on Rockstar Games’ Linkedin, the team is looking for a ‘Senior Graphics Programmer.’ This position requires someone with experience in using real-time ray-tracing APIs. The evidence aligns with what the first trailer showcased.

Update 3/25

DF Weekly: Is GTA 6 at 60fps really out of the question for PS5 Pro?

Mentioned in the PSPro5 spec thread and under much debate I thought it needed it's own thread.

What do you think? I think it absolutely will have a 60fps mode, 60fps is now the norm, not the exception and this isn't 2013 anymore. GTA will be created with the weak Xbox S in mind so no reason the PS5pro can't have a 60fps version. PS5 might even have one but who knows.

People are now debating what "we are confident" means which is laughable as the context of the initial msg was in asking about 60fps on PS5 so what else could it mean😂 but the internet will be the internet. Msg was later deleted.

Original discussion..

This was said by senior artist, Hailin Si in a reply that was later deleted, in response to a fan’s question on a gaming Chinese social media app.Found by GTAForum user, viceYcitySource:https://gtaforums.com/topic/994376-gta-vi-leaks-analysis-thread-part-ii/?do=findComment&comment=1072355525…Original post:https://api.xiaoheihe.cn/v3/bbs/app/api/web/share?link_id=115617121…

I hope so Series S -> PS5 Pro is pretty much the same gap as PS4 -> PS5
Not when it comes to the CPU. We just need to hope they aimed at 60 for the base PS5 and if not that it isnt CPU bound.

Rigth now it looks like it will have some sort of performance mode at least.

Nope. Xbox series S has a similar CPU and fast SSD. They could run it at 60 FPS but at 720p or lower if the game is not an absolute CPU hog.

At one point it's too much of a compromise to offer such an option. Besides the elephant in the room is GTA Online 2. Make no mistake, the game is GTA Online 2 with a single player add on.

Online is typically more demanding and they will have to maintain it for a decade or more. Too many questions around this game, will they consider a switch 2 release down the line? Would that compromise the quality of the game on more powerful hardware as they accommodate for nintendo? I remember GTAV being a game that scaled incredibly well across several configurations. Could be ran on 8800GT and core 2 as well as punish high end rigs.

These should always get taken with 🧂🧂🧂. He didn't say anything definitive but there is hope.

And of course it got deleted. Ppl say things thry shouldn't say whether they are execs or other and things get deleted. They aren't suppose to make comments like tht before release or unless passed through channels.

Yeah, exactly. Tht is my point and why I think it will have one for PS5, but definitely one for pro.
if you read how he wrote and the answer. it is pretty clear that game has 60fps mode, no doubt. his message pretty clearly confirms it.

what he isn't sure, if that 60fps mode gonna be locked..

at same settings and same resolution, cpu is irrelevant.
What are you talking about? If a game is CPU bound on the Series S it's extremely likely that that it's also going to be the case for PS5 and PS5 Pro. We just need to hope that it isn't.

No, what I'm saying is, hypothetically if the PS5 Pro were to play the game at Series S settings/resolution, it will definitely run at higher FPS because of the extra GPU power. It being a CPU bound game doesn't matter at all in that case.

If it's truly CPU bound then the framerates wouldn't go up very much, certanly not to 60fps, that is the whole problem with cpu bound games.

Worst case scenario I think they would at least figure out a way to have it running at 40fps but I still expect some sort of 60fps mode to show up. R* is too technically competent to show up with a game that isn't up to modern standards.

40fps mode I'd take!

A game being CPU bound doesn't erase a massive GPU gap.

Games that are known for being CPU bound still benefit from having a better GPU, Anno 1800, Civilization, Total war, etc are extremely CPU intensive, but playing it on a 4080 will still give you a significantly more frames than playing it on a 4060, with both having the same CPU, settings, and resolution. Same with Starfield which is also supposedly "CPU bound" (it's just poorly optimized)
