It's now been over two years since the reveal trailer in 2022, we haven't heard anything from Square since.

Kh3 came out in 2019 so it's now been 5 years, what is taking square so long and why are they so silent again?

I dont understand why so many developers have adopted this strategy of complete silence for years on end after announcing a game.

How hard is it to just give a developer update or acknowledgement? Why is it so hard for developers to just communicate with their fans in 2024?

They have access to Social media, just keep the fans in the loop instead of ignoring them.

KH is so weird in that Nomura is insistent on info dropping during events like concerts. Also I feel like they also expect the mobile games to kind of act like stop gaps, which I guess it does, but I wish they’d just market KH like a normal fucking game lol I do feel like we have to see it soon. It’s the next big Square game in the horizon so it makes sense we’d have to see it soon

idk, but KH3 felt rushed so let them cook.

Maybe if they stopped wasting time on all those spin off games they could have taken their time, for years all we had was spin off handheld slop.

I really wish nomura wouldn't put important story elements in a mobile gacha game. Someone at Square really needs to put Nomura on a leash and keep him in check.

We also didn't really need a rhythm game spin off as well

The mobile games are by a different team

Tokyo team only made 1 and 2, Osaka team has made all the others including 3.

Tokyo team was disbanded and reorganised into various teams.

Which is why the quality has taken a massive nosedive over the years

Not a fan in the slightest. Hoping they learned their lesson working with Disney. The licenses needed can’t be cheap.

Kingdom Hearts III was released in 2019. Apparently looking at Nomura's words, KH4 development started in 2020.

Meaning, even if they announced with a CG in 2022, since nowadays AAA games normally take 5-9 years, it would be pretty likely released somewhere between 2025 and 2029. Nomura also said they have two different teams, so the mobile game isn't made by the same team of KH4.

So pretty likely are waiting to be closer to release before showing a gameplay reveal trailer.

It should be worth noting … we’re asking where Kingdom Hearts is right?

In a single year Square released 3 major Final Fantasy releases. Ff16, Rebirth and the most important and biggest release of them all, Dawntrail and the FF14 engine upgrade.

They tried this year for sure. It’s not like they’re being lazy.

At this rate, yeah most likely.

Although I kind of also wonder, are they maybe waiting for Switch 2? And if so, have they been taking longer to optimize a build for that platform?

It's either a PS6 game, or a PS5 & Switch 2 game. I also can't shake the idea that a PC build could also be a part of this, which would extend dev times if they're going for a Day 1 release across multiple platforms.

That's assuming it's not a PS exclusive, mind.

Hopefully they are taking the time to figure out how not to make a dissapointing C- game. Because thats what 3 was.

The Kingdom Hearts games are developed by the Osaka studio, completely seperate from the Final Fantasy studios

It was mostly down to Disney meddling, I hated the frozen world but the Two pixar world's were great

That would make sense, but I feel like the switch 2 had been delayed we still have not heard anything on it from Nintendo

The rumor was it's been pushed from late 2024 to early 2025. If the PS5 Pro's coming late 2024, it's possible that could be part of the reason why. Plus Nintendo wanting to milk the current Switch until they can't anymore. It definitely still has life in markets like Japan, for sure (and pretty much all others it seems).

According to Nomura they started it in 2020. I highly doubt they'd ever planned to release it in 4 years. Very likely that rumor is bullshit. I assume their original target was around the 2025-2029 range. Add a covid delay, so I'd discard 2025 as well.

I bet the planned release is minimum 2026. Maybe it's even planned as a crossgen PS5/PS6 launch window title.

I'm sorry but 9 years is absolutely ridiculous, we shouldnt have to wait an entire decade for a sequel.

Developers really need to sort this out and come up with a solution

9 years it's what it took to develop Rise of the Ronin, Starfield or and the time it took to Arrowhead since the Helldivers 1 launch to release Helldivers 2 (which had 8 years of development, like FFXVI, plus pretty likely several months of preproduction). Skull & Bones took 11 years and it's taking even more to BGE2.

Like it or not, this is what it's taking to several AAA games to be released. The average is 5-9 years nowadays.

The potential solutions to reduce these times would be to increase even more the amount of people working on it, to reduce the visual quality and detail of the games and to reduce its length, variety and complexity of the games. But the trend is that games that work best are always bigger, more varied, more complex and with better and more detailed visuals than the previous ones.

  • Kingdom Hearts 4 will launch next year, according to leaker Daniel Richtman.
  • If true, this increases the chances of us finally getting another trailer.
  • This rumour comes shortly after we crossed the two-year anniversary of the initial Kingdom Hearts 4 reveal.
Kingdom Hearts 4 will launch next year, according to entertainment leaker Daniel Richtman. This would almost definitely guarantee another trailer this summer, which would be the first major update since the game's reveal more than two years ago.

While Richtman often leaks details on TV and film, this comes just days after he also claimed that a Kingdom Hearts adaptation was in the works. He hasn't given us any indication that the two are related, so it's not clear how this supposed project would adapt the game series.

Richtman's latest leak comes via Patreon, and was shared in the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit.
