On October 1st, 2004 Sega and Sammy holdings merged together creating Sega Sammy Holdings.
Wanna know something crazy.
Sega's time in the console market was from July 15th, 1983 to January 23rd, 2001 when they announced that they would be leaving the Console business. (I know they still technically produced systems after this and supported the Dreamcast but for all intents and purposes this was the end of Sega being a hardware maker in the console space.)
That is only about 17 and a half years from Sega's first system to them announcing they will start making games on other platforms and abandoning the Dreamcast.
That means there has been more time since the release of the PS2 Slim in 2004 to now than there was from Sega's first Console to the end of the Dreamcast.
Today it has been 20 years since Sega as we know them has been operating. Sega has spent more time being apart of Sammy then being a console maker. How crazy is that for you guys who grew up on Sega Consoles?
Starting a new era for both companies and really is the true ending for the original Sega that people knew from the late 80s to the end of the Dreamcast.
