I'm glad NX covered what I've been saying for a long time. Running a true 4k backbuffer will enhance every single 2D framebuffer made for the game including all assets, texturing, and post-processing - this makes for an extremely more detailed render than 1440p scaled up to 4k.

I'll be testing this on m y 3090 tomorrow with max settings at 4k native.

As I get this a great deal, I will try to post any new videos/articles I do on my Channel and IGN. Yesterday I posted the Spider-Man PC comparison to PS5 and Steam Deck.

Fidelity mode is good enough for me.

ILikeFeed's summary.

  • character rendering isn't state of the art, but the art pops
  • no advanced rendering techniques like physically based materials or screen space reflections
  • environmental lighting is baked and real time shadows doesn't match lighting
  • environment is of relatively low polycount, misaligned cubemaps, questionable texture res
  • lacking per pixel motion blur or high quality dof
  • SMT5 has more advanced rendering techniques
  • dungeons are barren and flat, and very often repeated
  • city environments are better design, if small
  • no AA whatsoever, lots of shimmering
  • current gen high end
    • 2160p in quality
    • 1800p in performance
    • text is blurrier in performance mode
  • SS
    • 1152p
    • no mode selection
    • 2D is even more blurry
  • quality mode is 30fps, with no motion blur, so it's a bit chunky in motion, locked 30
  • performance mode is near locked 60fps outside of screen filling effects
  • Series X drops to 40s-50s in cities and in cutscenes, while PS5 don't
  • SS targets 60 but has the same problems as SX
  • last gen
    • One S is bad, 15-35fps, low end in cities
      • unlocked framerate
      • 1080p
      • can go as low as 5fps when fast forwarding though cutscenes
    • One X
      • 4K, but 5-10fps better
    • PS4
      • more consistent 30, but 20-30
      • 30fps cap in place
    • PS4 Pro
      • 1080p
      • near locked 30fps
  • the game is good. what the fuck is up with the performance tho
  • rendering is primitive but good art direction, except for the dungeons
