Leaving aside the wider business implications(movies/TV stuff) which I'm sure were a pretty big part of that deal, this seems like a great fit from a creative point of view.

Sony should be doing this with Square Enix. Either 30%-40% investment to use SE game franchise to make exclusive externally or from first party level instead under SE themselves. Aswell as expanding SE ip to cross media like a FF16 HBO show, FF7 Netflix show, FF9 animated movie etc

It would also be smart for Sony to buy the dragon quest ip considering PS is loosing SE control, Japan control & DQ creator dying/getting old they’ll likely look for someone to take the ip & cash in. Also DQ could be like DBZ it’s been barely expanded into animation, shows & movies so much potential in general.

And after seeing what Sega is doing w Sonic which at one point Sony was going to make it before they sold the movie rights. It’s clear gaming media is growing fast & showing massive potential in both growth of the ip to a new crowd & massive profits.

Maybe buy Kadokawa since they have anime production team aswell as Fromsoft & Chunsoft
