Bloomberg: Destiny 2 The Final Shape Delayed to June 2024 - Marathon Delayed to 2025

Bungie, the Sony-owned game studio behind Destiny 2, let go an undisclosed number of staffers, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

In an email to employees seen by Bloomberg, Bungie Chief Executive Officer Pete Parsons said staffers would be “hearing some news today” and that there would be a team meeting later in the day to “discuss today’s events.” The company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Bungie recently delayed an upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, The Final Shape, until June from February, pushing it out of Sony Group Corp.’s current fiscal year, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly. Bungie’s next game, Marathon, slipped to 2025.

I know all the news are plastering SONY OWNED to make it a bigger deal but PS fans never cheered for the Bungie acquisition, unlike Activision, that was like life or death situation for the xbots.

All this rubbing it in our faces is not effective. Bungie could close tomorrow and very few, if any PS fan would care.

Don't get me wrong, it would be a big loss for the gaming industry (I love Destiny!) but I'm talking strictly PS fans.

Games like Zelda TotK, Gran Turismo 7 or Pragmata are Japanese and also got delayed. Same goes with western non GaaS like GoWR. Delays are very common in game development.

I'd say that pretty likely the PR guy simply forgot to update the release date, just a human error.

Final Shape delay will also help Helldivers 2 not get killed off at launch by Destiny itself. They were too close after Helldivers got delayed from dec to February.

Sony fans didn't act like buying Bungie was a huge deal because they have games to play from a wide array of developers, something to suit just about any preference, while Xbox only has the Assholey Trinity of Gears, Halo and Forza, and we saw how that turned out this generation.

Xbox fanboys have been obnoxious since before the original Xbox even launched, but at least for the first two generations of MS' money-burning misadventure into consoles they had games to play. Now they have nothing but pretending the emperor isn't hanging dong in the town square as loudly and idiotically as they can manage.
