PlayStation insider Colin Moriarty claims to have heard that the PS5 exclusive in development at Deviation Games has indeed been canceled. The writing has been on the wall for quite a while, but this is the first time we’ve heard from an insider that rumors of the project being in trouble weren’t unfounded.

What happened to Deviation Games PS5 exclusive?

On episode 255 of his Sacred Symbols podcast, Moriarty says that he first heard from a source about impending layoffs at Deviation Games weeks before they were confirmed, and the same source also told him that the mystery PS5 game was canceled. With his source’s claim about layoffs turning out to be true, Moriarty seems confident that the latter part of their information is also correct.

You can hear Moriarty’s comments at the 2:45:55 mark below (thanks, Reddit):

I assume they'll announce it in the second PlayStation Showcase 2023 that according to him was coming (and won't happen).

Edit: The article is from May

Article from May 2023.

Yes, it got canceled. That's why they layed off over 50% of the employees.

This is old news.
They are going through a rough patches right now and their game still could be cancelled.
But they are still hiring on linkedin 2 weeks ago.

Jim Ryan's legacy will be remembered as cancelled games and studios, falling profits, and pointless acquisitions

No, because he basically resurrected Evolution and Liverpool studios acquiring Firesprite plus made acquisitions like Insomniac, Bungie, Housemarque or Bluepoint, he only closed a single studio Pixelopus (a 12 people team who didn't even have their own office) so maybe is the SIE CEO with less studio closures, had more revenue than any other console maker company CEO plus had the biggest profit SIE ever had.

And we don't have news of any cancelled game under his command. Deviation -not a Sony studio- fired people, but they didn't announce that the game is cancelled or that they stopped their partnership with Sony, so as far as we know they continue working on it and pretty likely they fucked it up with something important so the game and their staff needed some important changes and got delayed.

He will be remembered for being the guy in charge of the marketing in Sony Europe when PS1 and PS2 dominated the European gaming market, driving the worwide success of PS1 and PS2, and also the most successful console gaming CEO until now.

As far as I know there's no source saying it has been cancelled or that they fired 50% of the employees, it's only guesses from random people from internet.

Or do you have any solid source to share?
