My hardcore character died at level 35, so I sort of rage quit the plat quest. That is after I got bored grinding with a level 75 druid. The XP nerf for so little endgame incentive will make this game legs weak as a GAAS. The game's core right now is about trying different classes but the XP nerf decentivizes that....which means once you get to about level 60-65 with your main you have more or less seen and experienced everything the game has to offer. Your instinct then is to try a new class but to get to a late build stage you have to grind massively. That is a problem when showered with choice by other games seeking your $$, time and attention.
Simple fix: Give the option of carrying a baseline, existing character level over to new characters created.
Example: If you have a level 75 druid, you can create a new character, in a different class with the option of starting from scratch aka 0, with the story at 0, or at level 75, past the story. Naturally, once you level up that new character in that new class, the highest level character per account becomes the new baseline for new character creation.
Obviously this should also be the case for Hardcore characters. Since the game has two types of characters, Normal and Hardcore, this system applies the same way but filtered by type. That is to say, you can't use a normal baseline character to carry over leveling to a HC character. Only existing HC characters can serve as a baseline for new HC character creation. The problem for HC characters of course is having users create multiple HC characters using a baseline HC character to cheat the death penalty. So, maybe it's not appropriate to establish this system for HC characters. The obvious way it could work is to trade the baseline HC character for the new hardcore character (sacrifice), that way, the rules still apply - that is, you have to sacrifice the baseline character that you want as a leveling baseline for the new character. For normal characters, sacrificing the baseline takes away the flexibility of keeping your baseline build as is, but for HC the sacrifice is needed to avoid cheating the death penalty.
With this system you lessen the drag and disincentives created by the xp nerf and the current system. With this system you have the option of continuing your grind from where you left off with your baseline character while trying a new class. If you want to start from 0, with the story at 0 you also have the option. The only option not possible is starting the story at 0 with a character at level say 75, for illustration purposes. The structure of this game does not allow for an NG+ situation.
Moving from the game for sure.
