EA will be shutting down its Apex Legends UK QA team, with around 50 contracted workers affected.

According to sources who spoke with Insider Gaming under the condition of anonymity, workers were called into a ‘Business Update’ Zoom call yesterday, where it was announced that their contracts would not be renewed. Bizarrely, managers and project leads were left in the dark about the news, only to find out by those affected after the call that QA contracts

Companies will outsource just about anything thy can to get over on paring fair waged and spending more money. On the flip side govt taxing more and raining minimum wages has adverse effects such as these. They will just hire less ppl or none at all.

Real unfortunate for this to happen, the last update for Apex Legends was pretty well received if we go by the CCUs on Steam. Higher peak than previous seasons and the drop-off was less steep as well.

The UK team, established in 2022, was responsible for QA on Apex Legends from Season 16.

During the call, it was said that the decision not to renew contracts wasn’t due to the team’s performance but to a “restructuring of the business.” Sources said that the team performed well and hit all its internal targets and goals. It’s understood that this is not among the 670 employees who were laid off from EA in late February.

This just pretty much confirms it, not only did Apex team get some layoffs earlier, but now this QA team in the UK is getting the boot. It feels to be that Apex Legends is getting some pretty large cuts because it can probably absorb that kind of damage and still be very profitable.

A real kick in the nuts to Respawn and its partners who have been carrying EA when other divisions/studios have been underperforming at various points in the last few years.

You hate to see it.
