“Apex Legends: Breakout is the most fluid, fast-paced, and rewarding the game has felt in years by focusing on simplicity and removing as many barriers to shooting other players as possible,” we said of the game’s latest season, which launched in February.

“The next phase will then be, how do we think about more modalities of play, how do you expand beyond the traditional battle royale universe? And we’ll start to see that in the coming year,” Wilson said.

If we take a look at the weekly Steam CCU peaks for the game, we can see that this newest Season has had better retention than previous seasons, reversing a downward trend since the last two seasons.

So I think broadening the modes for the game is a good choice. This has to potential to be rewarding, but at the same time, coming up with new shit is way harder on the team than just maintaining the game with seasonal updates.

But numbers right now are looking promising and Fornite also shown that going this path can be an avenue for increased long term success.
