Epic is giving developers 100 % revenue if they bring over 3 or more titles from other stores

30 percent more revenue per sale, 80 percent fewer sales, a "winner" is you.

Not investing in the platform either. It's rightly hated because it sucks. 6 years after launch it still lacks basic features. How will it get better on 0% when they're already firing people (allegedly) over profits drying up.

If Epic is really furious about the evils of platform 'taxation', they should fund and develop all kinds of initiatives to make PC platform agnostic. There could be an open source / free console UI like Steam has. There could be a modern game distribution format that incorporates on-going updates/dlc.

The reality is they just want to be the platform holder, and theyve built a shitty platform. It's blatantly obvious they're not engaging in an altruistic campaign against vendor lock-in and greedy monopolies. They want to *be* a greedy monopoly, locking you into their inferior services.

Epic needs to put out a good product instead of trying to bribe people

They got everything ass backwards. Steam isn't the dominant platform because it gave away free games, it's the dominant platform because their storefront is the best in terms of features and policies. Ofc Steam can coast due to momentum now but Epic will never break into the market just paying for games to be given away.

The *could* coast, but instead they use their position to take on insane long term projects for the future. They fucked around and turned Linux into a gaming platform. They practically established the state of the art in VR 5 years early. They made PC gaming portable. And they do a lot of this stuff in a more transparent, broadly beneficial way than practically any other company. Valve could be 30% more evil and still be better than most companies in gaming or otherwise.

In fairness, they did some consumer unfriendly things starting out, like selling physical games that were basically just on-disc Steam keys that required a Steam account to work. But thats all in the past now and physical copies of PC games are practically nonexistent outside of a few Bejeweled clones in the Best Buy 5 dollar bin.

None of that shit is why Steam is the dominant platform. A single digit percentage plays on Linux, even with Steamdeck included. VR on PC is virtually dead. Yes it's nice that they are one of "the good ones" but as we see from Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, ABK, Nike, Pepsico, etcetcetc no one gives a shit about the corporate ethics, it's about the products.

It’s the dominant platform because Valve strong-armed everyone playing CounterStrike into installing it when it was nothing more than a DRM manager.

Any other fairytale to explain it is bullshit.
