Naoki Hamaguchi – who was the co-director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the director of Rebirth – was recently asked by GamesRadar how he felt about the game being released on other platforms.

Hamaguchi replied that while there were no announcements to make yet, he wanted to see the Remake games appearing on more systems.

“In terms of Final Fantasy 7, there’s nothing really we can say at the moment, but certainly I do want to bring Final Fantasy 7 and the Remake series to as many players out there as possible,” Hamaguchi explained.

“So we want to create that situation, that environment, where more players can play the games in future, and we want to look in that direction.”

Hamaguchi also said that while it used to be possible to release a game on a single platform and have players buy that system to play it, that’s less the case these days.

They keep saying this, but they have to actually do it if they want people to believe it. Square has done a pretty good job supporting multiplatform releases overall, but XVI, VII Remake, and VII ReBirth are very much absent on anything that isn't Playstation or PC, currently.
This feels like its just saying "we're under a timed exclusivity deal, but we're not against releasing on other platforms down the line" which, cool, but y'all say this like every other month.

Its because people keep asking them the same thing over and over so they have to keep giving the same answer and its not going to happen anytime soon, atleast till remake part 3 has been released and out for a good while beforehand.

Its ok give it another month or two and we will get it again "so and so says bla bla bla"

Too late for Xbox and Switch 2 will be too weak so PC then? It was exclusive for 3 months so this one's up to Square.

Not without breaking the Sony contract.

Maybe after the trilogy is finished.

We’ll see.

Tell that to Nintendo.

And I’m sure Square will have plenty of AA Switch 2 exclusives.

There’s nothing wrong or limiting about exclusivity. Make a good game and people will buy it no matter what.

As long as Sony an exclusivity deal if i were them, i d ask SE to shut up about xbox ports until its over.
At this point don't think Sony cares, the contracts for Part 3 probably already signed years ago. By the time these come out anywhere else it will be another Final Fantasy 16 PC situation and PlayStation will still be where most people played them.

Yup, Part 3 will be timed exclusive and then from their SE can worry about expensing their bases on their own. If Sony does indeed get Kadokawa, SE should prepare to not get the golden treatment they have gotten from Sony in the past 4 years. their bases will be covered and SE won't be needed to fill it for them.

I think Sony already pulled back the red carpet from SE from last year and hence these public comments from the company. With Jim Ryan gone as well, I fully expect to see Sony letting them fend a bit more for themselves in the West.

Xbox and PC won't be their saving grace though. Nintendo will be their key to growth assuming Nintendo will give them the kinda support Sony did.

You know PS is in a dangerous position when even long term partners who are japanese se value on Xbox a platform that will literally not exist in the next 3-5 years outside the name existing but majority of Xbox gamers will migrate to PC/Steamdeck.

You can bet Xbox went to Japan & w during a meeting w Square Enix said something of the like “PS doesn’t even have exclusive look at them they release games on PC hell in some cases even day n date on PC & even there direct competitors platform Nintendo why would you a 3rd party publisher not develop & release on Xbox?”

PS opening Pandora’s box will be there biggest mistake. Outside them outright buying them which if I’m Square Enix since PS is desperate to lockdown ip & studios & who PS themselves also release on PC I would be squeezing tf out of Sony/PS either you fully cover the budget + marketing + give use 100-200 million of free cash & or cough up a high high premium from a company buy out or we go 3rd party. Either way Sony/PS gets fucked for there short minded thinking

That & them saying the game underperformed even thoe it outperformed 3rd party major games like RE4, Dragon Dogma etc while the PC port did 30K by Square Enix standard the PC release needs to do 150K-200K to be considered a success.

It out preformed Metaphor Refantazio as well. The game so many people are propping up to tear down Sony for paying Square Enix to get FF7 as an exclusive on PS. But Squarenix is dumb. They will never be happy.

Not just that but I’d be shocked if if Sony wasn’t fully founding FF at this point these deal between Square & Sony should literally be Square getting a free 200 million + the sales gain after the budget is recoup.

Either way FF16 wouldn’t be the game it is if it launch on Xbox series & Switch 2 fundamentally both FF16 & FF7 had performance issues while being exclusive imagine the shit show if it was multiplat and it took Square like what 6 months or more I don’t even think FF 7 rebirth got its issue patch till just now w PS5 pro. But I haven’t kept up.

The bigger issue for FF is the fact there isn’t a multiplayer GAAS game that attract young people on both console & mobile sure FF14 is big but that’s really an older audience & mainly Asia region. Surprised Square Enix hasn’t make a Genshin Impact/Honkai Starrail clone using the Final Fantasy ip feels like that would be big on PS4/PS5, PC & mobile

Ah & there being no FF cross media & lacking any presence outside gaming. There should be a FF anime, tv show & movie which there isn’t & doesn’t help expand the FF franchise to a new audience

I’d say in 2030 they start porting ff7 remake trilogy to Xbox if part 3 comes out in 2028 if it does happen

Honestly Square Enix continues announcements of games not meeting expectations & especially w FF16 & FF7 did nothing but hurt it imo imagine if Square Enix announce that it did it would likely boost sells & gave a positive aura surrounding those FF games & the media. Is Square expecting FF to sell 7 million on first week? Not even Mario or Spiderman 2 did that much. Even multiplat RE4 that have guns & Dragon Dogma that’s kinda soul ish only did 3 million first week & they where multiplat. If anything both FF16 & 7 performed or even outperformed & will likely both have sold 5+ million in its first year & within its 2nd will sell 7+ million with sales. Idk but 10 million for a FF game is pretty good especially one that RPG leaning Japanese & doesn’t have guns & are pretty grindy/complicated story wise. Metaphor will likely cap at 5 million multiplat unless it gets a serious boost from GOTY or it gets a Switch release. The yakuza game did like what 1-2 million & it was a breakthrough success.

Most FF games sell around 7 to 12 million. There’s likely a few exceptions for some older games that have been on sales for years that have racked up sells figures
