  • The Federal Trade Commission is set to file for an injunction seeking to block Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a person familiar with the matter told CNBC.
  • The FTC had already sued to block the $68.7 billion acquisition, choosing to bring the case before its internal administrative law judge.
  • By filing for an injunction, the FTC is seeking to stop the acquisition from going through before the deal’s July 18 deadline.

I don't think this means anything. In the US, MS needs to throw more money at some politicians to get it done.

I don't know for sure if the FTC will be able to win this with the US Court system, but if they lean heavily into the same cloud concerns that other regulators have agreed upon with their arguments to the judge, they may at least be able to convince them with the argument that they need to grant an injunction to keep MS from closing before the deal can be sufficiently scrutinized in court. This would basically keep them from closing before the deadline.
