The next Gears Of War game is reportedly making the bold move of going open-world, according to leaks from insiders.
While not a lot is known about Gears of War 6, it’s supposedly aiming for a 2024/2025 release, meaning we could catch a glimpse of the game sometime later this year or during next year.
Despite not knowing the specifics, insiders are now claiming it’ll be the first game in the series to embrace open-world gameplay. That’s a far cry from previous games, which have featured open spaces, but in a more linear format.
The news was shared through an episode of the Xbox On podcast via Shpeshal Nick, who said Gears Of War 6 will be a "full, almost open world game." Nick also claimed the levels featured in Gears Of War 5 were a "step towards that.”
He went on to say that the game’s development is a "little further along than some may think," meaning we might see a reveal sometime next year, perhaps during an Xbox showcase or dedicated Gears Of War showcase. That being said, The Game Awards could also be the perfect venue for a teaser trailer and release date reveal.
The biggest challenge with Gears Of War 6 will likely be where to take the story next. Gears Of War 5 included two endings depending on which character the player picked, meaning a sixth game in the series will have to continue one of those endings to keep the story going.
In other news, Zack Snyder has expressed interest in directing a Gears Of Wars TV film, and we’d be more than happy to see that come to fruition.
Gears Of War 6 currently has no release date, but will launch on Xbox, and probably PC platforms.
