‘The Last of Us’ Season 1 premiered on HBO on January 15, 2023, and was renewed for Season 2 on January 27, 2023, after the opening episode surpassed 22 million views. Showrunner Craig Mazin revealed that Season 2 will be split into two parts. He said, “The show won’t conclude with Season 2 unless viewers don’t watch it and it gets canceled.“
Reportedly, the budget for ‘The Last of Us’ season 2 will surpass that of season 1. The storyline will span multiple seasons and feature a greater number of infected compared to season 1. Expect deviations from the source material of ‘The Last of Us Part 2’.
The Last of Us’ Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on HBO in early 2025.
