Is the XS/S the reason why 'Starfield' is 30fps?

If so, what will that mean for future highend multiplat games that will take advantage of the PS5/PS5 Pro and PC later in the generation?

MS seems to indicate the XS/X is the "pro" of the Xbox console platform, so really later on gen games could be a lesser gaming experience overall on the Xbox platform to accomodate the XS/S

Or

MS does come out with a XS/X "pro" and multiplat developers will be forced the complicated task of developing for 3 consoles - XS/S, XS/X and XS/X "pro" and try to have some feature parity...or sacrifice them for XS/S versions.

Either way, I think MS'c completey clustered this generation from the get go and to top it all off, their real goal of 'Games as a service' - Game Pass/Xcloud has it's own complications with the latest CMA requirements.

Personally I care nothing for Game Pass/Xcloud because I like to own my games and not rent them until servers or license issues shut them down

but what does Microsoft really have going for them later on in the generation?

It shouldnt effect it, the whole point was that Series X can do 60fps and Series S will do a 30fps version.

I think its just Bethesda’s laziness. Pretty sure other games with better graphics and more fasted paced action can do 60fps on Series X. Which would make 30fps on Series S acceptable

No idea if it is relevant to fps but did Bethesda not say something about the game having thousands of items that could be picked up and placed anywhere and it took a lot of processing power to do something like that?

I am sure somewhere will remember what i am talking about?

I know what your on about , I think the vast majority of people that want to play this would prefer a higher framerate over dropping a sandwich in a random spot & then it being there until they pick it up again 🤣

That would have limited effect on CPU unless those objects are being acted upon permanently. Think about when a level runs at X FPS, but then when you blow something up and debris fly everywhere with realistic physics your FPS tanks.

Object permanence is a poor excuse for framerate because those objects are stored in a save state on a map "cell" and then displayed on screen, only requiring processing power when messed with.

It's Bethesda ancient engine so I wouldn't be surprised if that save state method you mentioned was wasn't something it uses lol

You have no god damn idea what you're talking about  That's LITERALLY the stuff which costs CPU cycles! Those objects require physics calculations, draw calls, animations, and memory... You know memory bandwidth affects framerate, right?

Oh my god..

Seems more likely they’ll make 60fps an attractive feature of some supped up rerelease since Bethesda typically releases their games a few times. The controversy surrounding the launch version won’t even be remembered.

Doubt it Skyrim never got official 60fps update even though it was re released on PS4 / Xbox one the PS4 pro & series X released & then it got a 'next gen upgrade' & still 30fps lol

I don’t think so.

There are game that are 30fps on S and 60fps on X.

So the reason is that they couldn’t archive 60fps on Series X… pretty single.

Great point I didn’t even realize that. I have the Switch version but assumed the other consoles had 60fps. Good to know.

Nope they've been stuck at 30fps & looking like a PS3 game since it launched on the 360 & PS3 🤣 there is a mod that you can enable on PS4 pro / ps5 that enables 60fps but mods disable trophies
