I think the idea is that no major franchises are getting new entries this fiscal year. Don't expect a new GoW, Uncharted, TLoU, etc. But they didn't say anything about smaller franchises or new IPs. It'd be completely unreal to have a year in which Sony releases zero first party games, even if they are smaller or nicher titles.

So he is not saying they release this year? Imagine if Sony wasn't working on established IPs. He was answering to a guy talking about games coming out this year. In the follow up tweet he talks about games coming out this year again.
Totoki said major titles (e.g. God of War; Gran Turismo, Spiderman) not releasing. PlayStation IPs like Sly Cooper, Wild Arms, WipeOut etc. can release.
To be honest Sony working with non major IPs seems even more unbelievable since they tend to not touch them.
Twisted Metal reboot w a singleplayer & live service component should drop this year w Peacock Season 2 later this year I’m assuming. I don’t see TM being a 2025 release it should be a smaller title like Helldivers & it seem to be in development since 2020 if not 2019 before it got transferred to firesprite. I’d consider TM a medium ip it could have huge potential tbh
I mean we have Helldivers 2, returnal, sackboy this gen. I wouldn't consider any of those major ips.
I consider LBP a big IP, Returnal is a new IP. Only Helldivers fits the description.
Astrobot makes sense, it's due and could work with a small window between announcement and release.
Personally wouldn't mind a new ASTRO game that demo for the Ps5 was great. It'd be a shame if they didn't atleast try to make something non vr related from it. Might even be more popular then sackboy honestly.
