LAST OF US VOICE ACTOR CLAIMS THERE’S NO SCRIPT FOR PART III YET

last of us part iii

In an interview, Jeffrey Pierce, the voice actor for Tommy Miller – Joel’s brother – explained that he’s yet to receive a script for The Last of Us Part III.

He stressed that, as far as he knows, it’s ‘not something that has begun in any fashion’. Back in July, some potential casting information surfaced that suggested a completely separate story from what we’ve been exposed to thus far would be introduced, but nothing more was heard on that front.

Let Them Cook

Between The Last of Us (2013) and The Last of Us Part II (2020), there was a seven-year gap.

This allowed Naughty Dog to construct one of the most monumental games the industry has ever seen, and that title aired just three years ago.

So, if we work with the same timeline, it’s likely we won’t see The Last of Us Part III before 2027 – or perhaps later.

In the meantime, the firm is working on remasters and the shadowy, mysterious multiplayer game that has been lurking under the surface for some time.

In an exclusive interview with Dexerto, Jeffrey Pierce (Tommy Miller) said that he hadn’t picked up a script from Naughty Dog, nor did he know of any project in the works to create one:

At this point it’s not something that has begun in any fashion, at least, not that I know of, and I would hate to set myself up to have expectations about what it would be and then have it be something completely differene did stress that he’s fully expecting a script to turn up at his door, though.

There’s a glimmer of hope that we’re going to see either a prequel featuring Joel and Tommy’s earlier exploits in post-apocalyptic America, or we’ll see a continuation of the story post-Part II, which was the allusion at the end of 2020 title.

Within 4 years of TLOU1 release we got Uncharted 4 and Uncharted Lost Legacy. Meanwhile, 3.5 years after TLOU2 we only get a remake and a remaster 😒

He played a male character, so maybe Naughty Dog got rid of him too and don't plan to include him in TLOU3.

Games now take longer to be made, and during TLOUP2 they only had a single big development team.

2014 - Neil said there was a 50/50 chance Last of Us 2 would happen.

2014 - Troy Baker even said there was nothing on the Horizon.

2015 - Nolan North said Last of Us 2 was in development alongside Uncharted 4.

2015 - Neil Druckmann came out and said there was a prototype, but it's not it wasn't in development.

There was proof that it was in development.

2016 - Last of Us Part II was revealed on December 3rd, 2016.

2017 - Last of Us Part II goes into full production.

Neil pitched the story of Last of Us Part II to Ashley Johnson during the development of Left Behind. Shortly after it was pitched to Troy Baker

It's probably not in full production. The new IP might come first. They were probably waiting for The Last of Us Multiplayer to come out before Part III at the end of the generation.

After the live action series and the remasters I would very much life a healthy space in between TLOU 2 and 3. The public needs time to miss the mainline game again. I don’t doubt it’s coming though. Now that we know the TLOU2 remaster isn’t coming with significant story additions, I see an expressed opportunity to flesh out loose ends in a sequel. I can name several story elements I’d like to learn more about that the team just left hanging.

Not a chance it will be a prequel. They will do a sequel so they can keep adding to the HBO show.

I'll give them a script. Bring Joel back as a zombie infected. Except instead of being a mindless zombie he's an emotionless asshole murdering psycho like he was in the first game, and this time he kills everyone. Poignant music; the end. You know what ellie, we really were the last of us.

This makes no sense, reread what I said
I read it again and makes total sense. You were complaining about them having a lower output and I explained you why it's normal for big brand new games to take longer.

On top of this, TLOU Online is the bigger project they ever made, so may take even longer than what normally takes to make the average AAA nowadays. We also have to remember they are working on -at least- 3 brand new games and the TLOU2 remaster. Plus maybe more smaller projects (its PC port and Nathan Drake Collection remaster/PC ports?) in addition to maybe overview the TLOU2 tv show season 2, next Uncharted movie or some theme park / mobile game adaptation.

You brought up that games take longer to make as if that means anything, Uncharted 4 is still one of the best and most technically advanced games even 6 years later. My point was, if they released games on the caliber of U4 or Lost Legacy, no one would complain.

Yes, and I said this dumb point doesn't make any sense because they released TLOU2 around 3 years ago and in that time it's impossible to release a game like Uncharted 4 because nowadays AAA games take longer time to be developed than 3 years. They only had a single team for big AAA games which at the end of the development a part of it brached out to start working on TLOU Online.

So there was no other big game under development there at the same time than TLOU2, something that would be needed to release another big game since the TLOU2 launch.

The remasters, remakes and ports (plus movie, tv show, theme park rides etc) were made mostly by external teams with support and overview from a very small ND team.

After TLOU2 release (we don't know when exactly) they started to work on two new games in addition to TLOU Online, more big games at the same time that they ever had, but it's too soon to have released them or even to show them, because as I said AAA games nowadays take a longer time to be developed.
