Last year I got into the Yakuza series, after trying Zero a couple of years ago before that. I finished 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 pretty much back to back and got a little burnt out. A few weeks ago I did Yakuza 3 Remastered and that was when I realised I had become a real fan of the series, when you go back to Kamurocho part specifically.
I played a little Gunvalkyrie and TMNT Shredder's Revenge (both good) then jumped into 4 Remastered. The game is a step up from 3 in both graphics and game mechanics, including the fighting/combat. It's a little bit more polished in that regard, although I already found the criticism against 3 a bit unfair.
Yakuza 4 has 4 protagonists, and while I like Kiryu the best, I did enjoy Saejima a lot, then Akiyama and Tanimura last. Tanimura is a cop with his own sense of justice and I just personally found it the least interesting. That is to say, I still enjoyed it though to a lesser extent.
From what I can gather, the rubber bullet plot point is seen as a little silly, but from a series that has a large city underground with a man who has eyes on Kamurocho with surveillance cameras and spies, and an underground Coliseum, it's not really that bad.
I'd say this or Kiwami 1 were the weakest Yakuza so far, but I don't really remember much about Kiwami except the major plot points. I played this on Series X game pass and it runs well. I do have a physical of the Remastered Collection for ps4/5 but it's still sealed. I assume it's the same.
I'm going to take a break for a while before starting 5, because I don't want to get burnt out again. I'm doing Valkyria Revolution and I will probably write about that when I'm done because I have a lot to say about it. I give the game an 8/10
