Comes down to direction. He's pretty much capable doing the young Solid Snake voice, as evident by Republique.

For some reason the voice director asked him to sound like he's dying in Peace Walker. MGS4 I understand. But it's hard to listen to in Peace Walker, to the point you can sometimes be hard to understand what he's saying.

I still think his best performance was MGS1. Every subsequent game felt more of a chariciature than the previous

Maybe that's direction, maybe not.

Let's not forget Hayter is in his 50s now.compsred to his 30s when MGS3 came out He's also not done a lot of prolific voice acting work besides Snake
