Nadella acknowledged the expense but pointed out that gaming has been a big part of Microsoft for a long time. “When I think about Microsoft, I think of perhaps developer tools, proprietary software, and gaming,” the executive said. Those are three things that we’ve done from the very beginning.” Nadella isn’t wrong, with the company publishing its first game in 1979.

The CEO went on to explain how he believes gaming is one area where the company can have a major impact. He also described how Microsoft sees the industry continuing to evolve and briefly acknowledged the company’s changing approach to it.

“The way games are made, the way the games are delivered, is changing radically. Whether it’s mobile, or consoles, or PCs, or even the cloud. So, we’re looking forward to really doubling down both as a game producer and a publisher,” he said

Why does he need to clarify something obvious? One would think that was the case after Bethesda and Activision
He is signalling to the investors of the company the majority of Microsoft is owned by institutional investors thd growth of office subscriptions and Azure have slowed down so for him it's just his way of saying to the investors who are more invested in office and cloud growth that this is where the company will pivot to and this is a high growth sector for the company

Yeah because they spent almost 80 billion on these acquisitions, shareholders better be assured it was money well spent lol.

We know how it will eventually play out but it's all lip service to keep confidence high.

He's signalling that Microsoft started as a third party without a console and they'll transition back to it, same as before.

Satya knows he can't compete with Sony and Nintendo on the console front. His IP portfolio will fit well within his platform-owning overlords' ecosystems.

We are not going to go in that you and me know if they wanted to they would have had already done it for them it's earning money by having fingers in all facets of the gaming industry they have enough IPs to compete with the said competition

Nope. He's just making sure the investors know that with the catastrophic sales of Xbox in Starfield release month, the money isn't down the drain because they won't be competing in that space.

They're going to bow and grovel at the altar of Nintendo and Sony, like all of their fans.

Good, I'll keep ignoring them until they stop making games for bros and stop feeding lunatics on twitter.

Seems like they have to go 3rd party to fulfill this vision. Now that they own all these developers they can easily introduce a new type of Gamepass (with Only Microsoft games) that they can put on Playstation.
