According to analyst Daniel Ahmad on social media, a large part of the sales of the Resident Evil franchise occurred after the release of Resident Evil 7. We're talking about 82 million copies, representing 53% of the total number of copies.

According to Capcom's own figures on its official website, Resident Evil 2 Remake currently has 13.6 million copies sold, while Resident Evil 7 has 13 million.

The games that sold this large number of copies were:

  • Resident Evil 7
  • Resident Evil Village
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake
  • Resident Evil 3 Remake
  • Resident Evil 4 Remake
  • Old games that keep selling over time

EDIT: Nope, haven't read the actual sales data. Figured the list was in order.

Shame Village sold more than the Remake. We're about to get another series downfall...

I'd take another game like the RE2 remake over RE8, whatever that was.

Why do you hate 8 i liked it, and the DLC was really good too.

The first Castle section and Factory section were both very well done (wasn't a fan of the swamp area)

It's a good game, it's just shit RE. They're once again moving away from the horror roots and towards action. Something they already did and it almost killed the series.

Something like RE7 but improved would have been fine. Same pacing and atmosphere. Ideally, they would have used RE2 remake as a template for future RE games.

My thoughts exactly. It's like Capcom has to be kept on a tight leash or else they screw it up. Specially with RE .They get arrogant.

Re2make was great (worse than the original) but a dream come true. Re3make was terrible. Re8 mid and nothing to do with RE. And now there are rumours of an open world (sigh) RE9.

They are naturally inclined to gear (no pun intended) the series towards action. Even with multiplayer spinoffs no one wants.Unless a game bombs, then they course correct.

Its due to the feedback that a lot of people found RE7 "too scary" and didn't finish the game or even get passed the first section.

Franchise never needed saving though. RE 5 and RE6 were huge sellers and continues to move units to this day

Lmao
No.

If Capcom would have done another RE7 following the steps of RE6, it would have been DoA. Even in interviews, they knew RE6 missed its target despite the sales at the time.

The time came to completely rejuvenate the series.

Capcom considered RE6 a commercial failure, even though the game is to date the fastest-selling game in the franchise (RE6 made the serious mistake of trying to please everyone, but without success). They had to create a new engine, RE7 was made trying to be similar to the first game in the franchise.
