Konami has updated the total lifetime sales of the Metal Gear series, and as of the end of December 2023, over 61.1 million games were sold. That’s up 900,000 from their previous number, which was 60.2 as of the end of September.

It’s a significant boost from the usual numbers, the series generally sells between 200,000 and 500,000 copies per quarter. The reason, of course, is the release of the Master Collection in October of last year, which has been fairly successful.

This success should continue with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater supposedly planned for sometime later this year (according to PlayStation, Konami itself still gives it a TBD release window), and possibly the release of Master Collection Vol. 2, although nothing has been confirmed yet on that front. Furthermore, a physical release for the PS4 version of Vol. 1 is coming out next month, but only in the EMEA regions.

It feels like Konami has done pretty much nothing since MGSV. A f2p soccer game, tmnt and mgs collections. Right?

You forgot that Metal Gear Survive abomination.
I prefer them to settle on just repackaging the old good stuff, to be honest.

Yeah and Silent Hill doesn't seem to be up to the RE4 remake standard or even close.

I do think PlayStation would be a better steward for the IPs that Konami are sitting on.

To be fair they are timeless.

I mean… these games can break the passage of time and be mechanically good even today.

It is like Mario, Zelda, etc… you can play the old games and have the feeling “wow it plaits amazing we’ll even after 20 years”.
