Development of new Nintendo hardware is reportedly “progressing well”.

That’s according to a Nikkei Asia source, who the publication claims is close to the platform holder.

“Development seems to be progressing wel. But a product launch won’t happen before next spring at the earliest.”

Earlier today, Nintendo reported a slowdown in Switch hardware sales and suggested no new hardware will launch before April 2024.

The company said it sold 17.97 million Switch consoles during the fiscal year ended in March, taking lifetime sales to 125.62 million.

It expects to sell 15 million Switch consoles during the current fiscal year, which would represent a 16.5% year-over-year decline.

Assuming a new console launches in April, thatd put the ps5 at what, 80 million if sales keep going the way they are? Xbox maybe 30 million if they dont discontinue it before then?

Yes, Nintendo said they won't release a new console this fiscal year. I expect them to release it in November 2024, maximum 2025.

PS5 sold 38.4M until March, and estimates that they'll sell 25M more during the current FY. So it would be 63.4M.

Nintendo said that they won't release the console in the current fiscal year, that ends in March 2024. They didn't say that will release it in Spring 2024. Not releasing it in the current FY is also compatible with releasing it in 2025 or 2026. Even if it makes sense to expect it for 2024.

Most consoles release in November or March, so I'd expect it to release in November 2024.

Hardware advences to be used in handhelds is not helping Nintendo.
They are waiting the tech reach a point that doesn't need to be a huge block like Steam Deck to have decent performance.

I'm not exactly sure about their target but I guess Nintendo is at least aiming for something around PS4 capabilities in a handheld form factor.

PS5 sold 38.4M until March, and estimates that they'll sell 19M more during the current FY. So it would be 57.4M.
PS5 forecast is 25 million for FY2023 not 19 million.

Oops, true. 19M was their last forecast for the previous FY, I was wrong. The forecast is 25M.

Meaning, if Sony achieves their target PS5 will be at 63.4M in April 2024.

I've been waiting, wanted an Oled but stayed my hand till now...
Same here, I still have the original Switch.

I bet that November 2024 they'll release the Switch 2, fully BC with Switch, with a 1080p OLED screen and 4K upscaling for the tv using a custom DLSS.

If they forecast 25 then they might actually sell 30. Supply is their limit

Nintendo is gonna have to bring the heat. I assume it will be a Switch 2 or the like, because abandoning the form factor after the massive success they experienced would be foolish.

Just make it clear that it's a new system (not the Wii U foolishness), give it a significant power bump, and make killer games. It'll do fine if they do those things IMO.

I still think we get an early summer to early fall launch.
