There are some notable enhancements for the ROG Ally X, including a lot more RAM, coming in at 24GB LPDDR5 – 7500 MT/s, compared to last gen’s 16GB LPDDR5 – 6400 MT/s. This upgrade will help with performance through the increased RAM and faster speeds. The next big change is its storage, which has doubled from last-gen’s 512GB to 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSD this time around. This means you can fit even more games on your device when traveling (how convenient!)

Moreover, the one change that fans will be the most excited about is the battery, as Asus has listened to the community and doubled the capacity from 40Wh to 80Wh, which is exciting, to say the least. Lastly, there are minor tweaks to the body, such as enhancements for the handles, the chassis, and the joysticks. Also, the ROG XG Mobile port has been discarded for USB 4 ports on the new device. However, the APU is the same one from the last gen, which is AMD Ryzen 1 Extreme. Check out the full specifications of the ROG Ally X below.

Where it does differ from the first ROG Ally is in battery life as the device will have a larger battery pack within the handheld. It will also have more memory compared to the 16GB in the original as well as longer M.2 2280 slot for more options with M.2 drives.

As far as full specifications (specs) for the device, that will come at a later date closer to launch.

Lastly, when it comes to the ROG Ally 2, that system won’t be coming, Asus says, until the company can offer players a major improvement over the original.

he official specs of the ROG Ally X are here. The updated design will feature the same Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, with 8 Zen4 cores and 12 RDNA3 Compute Units. ASUS is not making any changes in that regard. The device will retain the same 7-inch Full-HD screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 500 nits brightness.

What has changed is the physical design to accommodate new hardware, such as the larger battery. One of the most commonly raised issues with the 2023 Ally was its small 40 Wh battery size. ASUS has teased that the battery life will be increased in the new version. We can now confirm that the new version will feature an 80 Wh battery, doubling its capacity.

Furthermore, the Ally X will ship with 24GB of LPDDR5(X)-7500 memory. The current (2023) model features 16GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory, meaning the X version will have an additional 8GB of capacity and higher bandwidth. This increased bandwidth will match that of the Legion Go, which should undoubtedly have an effect on integrated GPU performance.

It might indeed be possible for a PS6 Portable to be ~ PS5 (or a bit higher) in TF performance and some fixed graphics functions (texels, pixel fillrate, geometry culling etc.), with shared modern PS6 hardware features, at a price of ~ $399 to $499 by the time 10th gen is ready (around 2028 it'd seem).

I still feel SIE'd need to figure a way to develop tech that can handle upscaling & downscaling of not just internal & external resolutions, but also LODs & textures based framebuffer feedback. Guess something like a graphics-orientated version of branch prediction but utilizing specific AI/ML-based integrated logic, buffer memory caches, and metadata with programmer-defined conditional logic & routine specifications (think like defining the operation logic of a FPGA, but significantly easier). AI logic being able to handle some of the programming work through data interpretation of what's already being processed by the game would be desired, too.

That type of stuff alongside with whatever PSSR already does could help automate a lot of things in the dev process as well as settings optimizations of PS6-target games for a PS6-based portable.

Doesn't matter what the theoretical max specs say on boost clocks that last for a fraction of a second. At 25W TDP the Z1 Extreme averages at a little over 2GHz.

RDNA3 uses dual-issue FP32 ALUs that can provide twice the throughput for a theoretical 6.45 TFLOPs, but the amount of instructions supported are very limited and AMD didn't double all the rest that would make it perform twice as fast (caches, registers, schedulers, ROPS, memory channels, etc.).
In practice a 6.45 TFLOPs RDNA3 GPU will perform very close to a 3.225 TFLOPs RDNA2.

Boosting the TDP towards over 35W lets the GPU average at like 2.5GHz but gives diminishing returns because, once again, the GPU is bottlenecked by bandwidth.
ThePhawx's videos show how little gains the Phoenix chip gets above 25W. It's really not worth it.

Low amount of RAM and it is slow even for demanding games at 1080p at 60 fps. We saw bunch of examples in 4 years.

No, much faster, especially RTX3070.
These two cards are enough powerful to play games at 1440p at 144hz at high/ultra settings.

The ideal handheld to me would be OLED, low res (720p or 900p), low CPU frequencies (maybe even just 6 CPUs), max 60hz with VRR and a GPU as powerful as the memory bandwidth allowed.

The big problem right now seems to all be related to memory and people trying to run games that these devices aren't meant to run well.
